Kiwibit’s Beako smart bird feeder is $129.99 direct right now, down from $249.99. An 8MP camera films visiting birds in 4K, onboard AI names the species, and a separate solar panel keeps the battery topped up, so the feeder never comes down for charging. Two seed chambers flank the camera stack, motion alerts hit your phone as birds land, and the whole unit is sealed to live outside year-round.

Camera and AI

Video runs at true 4K with HDR, and stills come off the 8MP sensor. A 132-degree ultra-wide lens covers the tray and both seed chambers, and infrared night vision keeps recording after dark. Motion detection triggers a phone alert on each arrival, and the app files clips and photos by species once the AI makes its call.

Species coverage runs past 10,000 birds. Live streaming and recording work without a subscription. Advanced AI identification is the paid layer on the base set, sold as a subscription, and a second set at $179.99 folds lifetime AI into the purchase price instead. Two-way audio lets you listen at the tray or talk through the feeder, and one feeder can be shared across the family in the app.

Up to three people can watch the live feed at the same time, and clips can be saved or shared straight from the app. Without a subscription, cloud storage keeps a one-day rolling history, so anything worth keeping needs to come off the feeder or onto a card quickly. The subscription and the lifetime set both widen that window alongside the advanced identification.

Power, seed and weather

Solar power comes from a separate adjustable panel on its own mount, cabled to the feeder so the panel can sit in sun while the feeder hangs in shade. Kiwibit rates one hour of sunlight as a full day of power. A 5,200mAh removable battery inside the feeder carries it through gray stretches, and USB-C covers manual top-ups.

Seed capacity is 1.5 liters, split across two chambers so two seed types can run side by side. Refills go through a flip-up roof, no tools or disassembly needed. Sealing is IP65, and the rated operating range runs from -4°F to 122°F. One gap in the design: there’s no squirrel deterrent built in, so the open tray serves anything that can climb to it.

Mounting and storage

Mounting hardware for a pole, a wall, and a tree strap all ship in the box. The feeder body stands about 11 inches tall and weighs just over 6 pounds loaded. Wi-Fi is 2.4GHz only. Footage stores to the cloud or to a microSD card up to 128GB, and the card isn’t included.

Exact dimensions run 11.04 inches tall, 7.06 wide and 7.69 deep, and the feeder is built from ABS and polycarbonate. In the box: the feeder with its detachable seed container, the solar panel and its adjustable mount, plus mounting hardware for all three setups. A one-year warranty covers the unit. Two finishes are on sale, Sage Pine green and brown, with the lifetime AI set sold in brown at the $179.99 price.

Where the price lands it

At $129.99 direct, the Beako undercuts its own $249.99 list by $120. Best Buy lists the same feeder at $199.99. Rival camera feeders from Bird Buddy record at 2K, a full step down in resolution, and Bird Buddy’s subscription gates its own AI features as well. Buyers who want the AI identification without a monthly bill should price the $179.99 lifetime set against the subscription before ordering the base set.

I reviewed this same feeder back in April, when it sold as the Bird Feeder 2. The full hands-on is in my Kiwibit Bird Feeder 2 review.
