A 38mm case inspired by classic sports cars
The EFR-109D-1A measures 45.3 × 38 × 9.8mm (length × width × thickness). Casio says the design draws inspiration from classic sports cars, although the influence is subtle. Instead of racing graphics or dashboard-inspired details, the watch uses restrained proportions and a raised crystal to establish its character.
The stainless steel case and bezel maintain a traditional sports-watch appearance. The watch weighs 97g, including its bracelet; comfort depends on wrist size and fit.
A black dial beneath a curved mineral crystal
The EFR-109D-1A features a black dial with three hands and a date window at 3 o’clock. Contrasting markers and an outer minute track keep the display organized without the additional subdials found on many Edifice chronographs.
Its most distinctive feature is the curved mineral crystal. Casio uses a box-style design that creates depth reminiscent of older watches. The raised profile gives the dial a different appearance when viewed from an angle.
However, mineral glass is generally more susceptible to scratches than sapphire crystal. Buyers who prioritize scratch resistance should consider that limitation before choosing this model.
Four dial colors offer different interpretations
The EFR-109 series includes several dial options. The EFR-109D-1A features black, the EFR-109D-2A comes in navy blue, and the EFR-109D-3A has a dark green dial. These three versions share the same basic stainless steel construction and curved crystal.
Casio also offers the EFR-109L-7A, which pairs a cream-colored dial with a leather strap instead of a metal bracelet. Its lighter dial and leather finish give it a more traditional appearance.
Black is the most understated option, while navy offers a subtle alternative. Green stands out with contrasting gold-tone markers, and cream emphasizes the vintage styling. The choice largely depends on personal preference, although the leather strap makes the cream version distinct from the bracelet models.
Stainless steel bracelet and everyday fit
The EFR-109D-1A includes a stainless steel bracelet with a one-touch, three-fold clasp. Casio specifies a compatible wrist circumference of 150–205mm, although some buyers may need to remove links for a comfortable fit.
Quartz movement keeps maintenance simple
The EFR-109D-1A uses a battery-powered quartz movement with a specified accuracy of ±20 seconds per month. Unlike an automatic mechanical watch, it doesn’t require winding or regular wrist movement to keep running.
Casio estimates approximately three years of battery life using an SR920SW battery. This is the manufacturer’s expected operating duration rather than a guaranteed replacement interval.
The watch doesn’t include solar charging, Bluetooth connectivity, or radio-controlled timekeeping. Its functions are limited to displaying the time and date, so buyers looking for a stopwatch, countdown timer, or alarm should consider another Edifice model.
100-meter water resistance
The EFR-109D-1A offers 100-meter water resistance, equivalent to a 10-bar rating. This provides protection against everyday water exposure and activities permitted under Casio’s water-resistance guidelines.
Casio’s guidance for 100-meter water resistance permits swimming and snorkeling, but not jet-skiing or scuba diving. Avoid operating the crown while the watch is wet or submerged.
Price and availability
U.S. pricing for the Casio Edifice EFR-109D-1A has not yet been confirmed.
Availability may also differ between dial variants. Checking the complete model reference is important, particularly when choosing between the stainless steel bracelet versions and the cream model with its leather strap.
Should you buy the Casio Edifice EFR-109D-1A?
The EFR-109D-1A is worth considering if you want a smaller stainless steel sports watch without chronograph subdials or a thick case. Its quartz movement requires little routine attention, while the 100-meter water-resistance rating makes it more practical than some conventional dress watches.

The main tradeoff is the curved mineral crystal: it adds vintage character but offers less scratch resistance than sapphire. If scratch resistance matters more to you than that styling, consider a sapphire-equipped alternative.
