The GMD-S5610 is Casio’s compact square with fresh touches of green: accents tracing the outer dial ring and the G-SHOCK wordmark, over black or white resin, with key resin components molded from bio-based resin.
Casio’s own stores in the Netherlands, Spain, and France have both colors in stock now, priced in genuine impulse-buy territory, which is where squares have always done their best work.

The square, and the line it sits in
The 5600 template was drawn at full size and the size stuck for four decades of squares, which is why Casio keeps a second shelf in the family, the GMD-S line: the same silhouette on the compact case the brand files inside its women’s digital range.
The label undersells it. Both colorways keep the styling plain. The black is the GMD-S5610-1 and the white is the GMD-S5610-7, resin cases under a clean digital face.
The case measures 45.7 by 40.5 millimeters, stands 11.9 millimeters thick, and the whole watch weighs 42 grams. The band fits wrists from 145 to 190 millimeters around.
The case dimensions match what Casio already sells. The older GMD-S5600-1 wears a case with identical dimensions and weighs 41 grams, one gram less than the new watch, so nobody shrunk anything to make this release happen.
The build is still shock resistant, with a 200-meter water-resistance rating.
Bio-based resin does the quiet work
The case and strap are resin, as a square should be, and the key resin components are bio-based resin. Casio makes the material from renewable organic feedstock.
The material is not new to the family, either, and the precedent is Casio’s own BB-1. The all-black GMD-S5610BB-1 has run a bio-based bezel and band since July 2024, and the S5610 carries that same build into the standard compact line in the new green-accent colors.
The daily kit, covered
The display is a straightforward rectangular digital behind mineral glass: time in 12- or 24-hour format, the date, and the day of the week, all in one glance.
The calendar is fully automatic out to 2099, so month ends and leap years sort themselves without a correction from you. Automatic ends at the calendar, though: this is a quartz watch with a stated accuracy of plus or minus 15 seconds a month, it never syncs to anything, and the CR1616 battery inside is a replaceable cell rated at about three years.
Timing tools run deep for a watch this small: a 1/100-second stopwatch for splits, a countdown timer good for anything up to a full day with an auto-repeat that starts it over on its own, an hourly time signal, and a multifunction alarm that covers the daily wake-up and then some. The LED backlight pairs with a flash alert, so an alarm or a finished timer can blink the light at you instead of only beeping.
Japan’s release is planned for November, and Casio’s UK store lists the watch at 80 pounds, currently out of stock. Stateside, it’s a wait. No American date is confirmed, and no exact US offer has been found.
