Acer’s New Phone Adds a Rear Screen to Take the Guesswork Out of Selfies

Taking selfies with a smartphone’s main camera can be frustrating because you can’t see exactly what’s in the frame. Rear cameras often have better hardware than front-facing cameras, but using them for selfies usually involves guesswork. Acer’s Sospiro A70 addresses that problem with a small display beside its rear camera.
Price: TBD

The Acer Sospiro A70 combines a 1.88-inch rear screen with a 64MP main camera, allowing users to preview photographs without turning the phone around. It also features a 6.67-inch 120Hz display, 5G connectivity, Android 16, and a 5,000mAh battery.
Acer Mobile LATAM lists the A70, which uses Acer branding licensed to Senwa Global International. With its rear preview display and 5G, the A70 presents an intriguing option to watch as pricing and retail availability come into focus.

A rear screen that makes selfies easier
The Sospiro A70’s most distinctive feature is its 1.88-inch rear display, positioned alongside the camera system. It has a resolution of 240 × 284 pixels and provides a preview when taking photographs with the rear camera.
That could be useful for group photographs, travel selfies, and situations where accurate framing matters. Instead of repeatedly taking photographs to check the composition, users can see themselves before pressing the shutter.
The secondary display also makes the rear camera more convenient for self-portraits. However, its small size means it serves primarily as a framing tool rather than a replacement for the main screen.
A smooth display with modest resolution
The main screen measures 6.67 inches and uses an IPS LCD panel with a 120Hz refresh rate. Its resolution is 720 × 1600 pixels, which is relatively modest for a smartphone this size.
The higher refresh rate should make scrolling and interface animations appear smoother than on a conventional 60Hz display. However, text and fine details may look less sharp than on competing phones with Full HD+ screens.
For messaging, browsing, and casual video playback, the display may be sufficient. Buyers who frequently read small text or edit photographs may prefer a sharper panel.
Unisoc T8200 brings 5G connectivity
The Sospiro A70 runs on a Unisoc T8200 octa-core processor, with a maximum clock speed of 2.3GHz. It includes 8GB of physical RAM and 256GB of internal storage.
Acer advertises up to 20GB of memory through its Mega RAM feature. That figure combines the installed 8GB with up to 12GB of virtual memory allocated from internal storage. Virtual memory can help manage background applications, but it isn’t equivalent to physical RAM.
The phone supports microSDXC cards up to 1TB, providing additional storage for photographs, videos, and downloaded files. Its 5G connectivity is an improvement over the earlier Sospiro A15, which supported 4G LTE.
A 64MP camera with Android 16
The A70 features a 64MP main camera accompanied by an AI sensor and LED flash. There’s also a 16MP front-facing camera with its own flash.
Acer promotes AI-assisted photography, although its specifications don’t establish how much the software improves photographs. Independent testing would be needed to assess detail, exposure, and low-light performance. A higher megapixel count also doesn’t guarantee better results than the front-facing camera.
The phone runs Android 16 and includes facial recognition alongside a fingerprint reader integrated into the side power button. Connectivity features include NFC, Bluetooth 5.2, dual-band Wi-Fi, GPS, and FM radio.
A 3.5mm headphone jack and expandable storage are also included, giving buyers options that aren’t always available on more expensive smartphones.
A 5,000mAh battery and included accessories
The Sospiro A70 includes a 5,000mAh battery with fast-charging support. Acer hasn’t specified the charging wattage, making it difficult to assess how quickly the battery can be replenished.
Actual endurance will depend on screen brightness, network conditions, and application usage. The battery capacity alone doesn’t establish whether the phone can comfortably last through a full day.
The handset measures 165.95 × 77.1 × 8.35mm and weighs approximately 210 grams. It also carries an IP64 rating, providing protection against dust and water splashes rather than immersion.
Acer includes a wall charger, USB cable, protective case, and screen protector. Having these accessories in the box could reduce additional spending after purchase.
Price and availability
The Acer Sospiro A70 is listed on Acer Mobile LATAM’s (Latin American) website, but the listing does not provide a price or on-sale date. The Acer branding is licensed to Senwa Global International.
Pricing will determine how competitive the phone becomes. Its secondary display and 5G connectivity are useful additions, but the HD+ screen and processor place it below premium smartphones. The reports point to a Latin American market, and no U.S. availability has been announced.
What to consider before buying
The Sospiro A70 is aimed at buyers who frequently take selfies, group photographs, or short videos and want better control over framing. Its rear display is the main attraction, while 5G connectivity, expandable storage, and a headphone jack make it useful beyond photography.
However, buyers who prioritize display sharpness, demanding games, or advanced camera performance may find better alternatives. The HD+ panel is a noticeable compromise, and Acer hasn’t provided enough information to judge charging speed or photographic performance.

If the A70 launches at a competitive price, it could be an interesting choice for budget-conscious smartphone buyers who want a rear camera preview screen. Otherwise, a conventional phone with a sharper display may offer better value. It’s sensible to wait for official pricing and independent camera reviews before deciding.
