Segway’s Ninebot F3 pairs front hydraulic suspension with a rear elastomer shock absorber to absorb bumps on paved routes. At $649.99 on Amazon, the F3 also brings self-sealing tires and phone-based unlocking to the commute.
This is the U.S. F3, model 051701U, with a claimed top speed of approximately 20 mph. Its rated range is up to 44 miles in Eco mode at about 9 mph, versus approximately 25 miles in Sport mode at 20 mph.

What the range figures mean for your commute
The rated range tests use a full battery, a rider weighing 165 pounds, give or take 11 pounds, and temperatures around 77°F, plus or minus 9°F. The scooter travels on pavement at the maximum speed of each mode. Rider weight, cold weather, repeated stops and battery age can all reduce the distance available. If you intend to ride at the higher speed, the 25-mile Sport figure is the more relevant starting point, with room left for conditions on your route.
Drive mode sits between those two settings, with a 15 mph speed limit and an approximately 31-mile rated range under the same test method. Match your route to the mode you expect to use: a 44-mile specification at 9 mph doesn’t describe a 20 mph trip.
For a round-trip commute, count both legs before comparing the distance with those ratings. A ten-mile ride to work also leaves ten miles to get home if you can’t charge at your destination. Against the 25-mile Sport rating, that example leaves only five rated miles before accounting for stops, load and temperature. A shorter route gives you more room for those changes.
The motor is rated at 450 watts nominal, with a maximum output of 1,000 watts. A 477Wh battery supplies the power, and rated charging time is approximately eight hours with the included charger. Plan a full charge around a long stretch at home rather than a brief stop between errands. Use the original charger, keep the charge port and cable dry, and don’t leave the scooter unattended while charging.
Tires, brakes and folded size
The F3 uses 10-inch tubeless, self-sealing tires alongside its two different suspension systems. Braking comes from a front disc and rear electronic brake. The specified tire pressure is 42 to 48 psi. Self-sealing tires still need pressure checks: the manual warns that riding underinflated can damage them and overwork the motor. Check tire pressure when you charge; self-sealing doesn’t mean maintenance-free.
The scooter weighs approximately 42.3 pounds. The stem folds down, reducing the scooter’s height from 49.7 inches to 24.1 inches, but its folded length remains 45.4 inches. Its width stays at 23.2 inches when folded, too. Measure the place where you’ll park it, including the space needed to get it through a doorway or around furniture. Folding lowers the handlebar assembly; it doesn’t shorten the 45.4-inch footprint or reduce what you have to lift. Maximum payload is 265 pounds. The recommended rider age is 16 or older; required height is at least 5 feet 3 inches.
Phone features come with a setup step
The Segway Mobility app is part of getting started. The F3 manual calls for registration or login, pairing and a safety video before activation; until then, the scooter beeps and stays limited to 9.3 mph. Do that setup before the first trip rather than trying to finish it at the curb. After activation, the default riding mode is Drive.
AirLock uses a Bluetooth connection to your phone after you enable it in the app and set up a passcode. With the phone nearby and Bluetooth connected, pressing the power button turns on the scooter. There’s also a fallback if AirLock doesn’t unlock it: double-press the power button and use the digital passcode. Set up a code you can recall before you depend on the phone connection.
Apple users can also pair the F3 with the Find My network, rather than relying on a separate tracker. That pairing is a separate step from basic scooter activation. The manual provides a route through the Segway Mobility app and another through Find My on an iPhone or iPad, so activating the scooter alone doesn’t finish tracker setup.
The scooter has an IPX6 rating and its battery pack is rated IPX7, but the riding instructions prohibit riding in rain or through puddles. Keep a different way home in mind when rain is forecast, and don’t charge the scooter while it’s wet. Wear a helmet and follow local riding rules.

Ground-level storage is the easier fit for this 42.3-pound scooter. The folding stem helps with storage, but it won’t make carrying it up the stairs every day any easier. For a firsthand look at how scooter weight affects storage and carrying, see Vincent Nguyen’s NAVEE UT5 Ultra X review.
