A parrot found in a car park at Dublin Airport over the weekend has been reunited with its owner.

Lola, the two-year-old Alexandrine parakeet briefly named Troy by airport staff, was reunited with her owner Gheorghe Sava this evening and was brought back home.

Lola was discovered on Easter Sunday afternoon by two airport police officers on a routine patrol with their dog, Jimmy, when they were alerted by two Dublin Express coach sellers to a parrot perched on one of the bins outside Terminal 1.

After a friendly interaction, a temporary home was provided to Lola in an old dog crate.

Officers gave Lola some more food and some of the dog's toys from the canine unit.

They soon discovered her love of bananas, apples, watermelon and strawberries.

A spokesperson for daa, which operates Dublin Airport, said that the team were able to confirm Mr Sava was Lola's owner through her tag number and her reaction to hearing her name.

"Huge thanks to everyone who helped make this happen, and a special shoutout to the Airport Police K9 unit who built Lola a custom cage and kept her well fed," they added.
