Construction Industry Federation launch safety campaign
by Brian O'Donovan, https://www.facebook.com/rtenews/ · RTE.ieThe Construction Industry Federation (CIF) will today launch its latest construction safety campaign.
The two-week initiative will run from 12-23 October and has the theme of "Back to Basics".
The CIF said it is an intentional repeat of last year’s theme to highlight the need to renew focus on the every-day fundamentals through safe behaviours, a risk-based approach, and open conversations that help safeguard the health, safety and wellbeing of everyone working in construction.
Latest Health and Safety Authority (HSA) figures show that eight construction-related fatalities have occurred so far this year, representing 40% of the total number of recorded work-related fatalities in 2026 to date.
"While this is lower than the 11 construction-related deaths recorded across the full year in 2025, it is already higher than the five recorded in all of 2024, despite 2026 not yet having ended," said John Egan, Executive for Safety, Health and Skills at the Construction Industry Federation.
"Behind every fatality is a human tragedy, affecting not only the individual but also the family, friends and colleagues whose lives are forever changed."
"Safety requires continuous vigilance, learning and improvement, regardless of a worker’s experience, role or seniority," Mr Egan said.
The CIF said the safety campaign will reinforce the importance of good planning, risk assessment, supervision, communication, training and worker engagement in preventing accidents.
"During the campaign, CIF is encouraging companies across the sector to take a step back and critically evaluate their safety management systems, while ensuring that worker health and wellbeing are given the same level of priority and attention as safety," Mr Egan said.
