Youth delegates excited to represent Ireland at UNGA

Ireland's United Nations youth delegates have said they are excited to bring the issues important to young people to the world stage this week.

21-year-old Ciara O’Brien and 23-year-old Adam Donovan, both from Dublin, were announced as Ireland’s new youth delegates earlier this month.

Their first big task in their new positions is to represent Irish young people at the UN General Assembly in New York.

"Young people have really diverse opinions, diverse experiences and diverse views that they can bring to spaces like the UN," Ms O’Brien told RTÉ News.

"Whether they’re talking about climate, gender equality, digital literacy… All of these things impact young people uniquely and it’s really important that those perspectives are considered in the wider diplomatic space."

Mr Donovan said he wants to ensure young voices from all over Ireland are represented during their tenure as youth delegates.

"Young people are more passionate than ever about being involved in decisions that shape their future," he said.

"It’s really important that we stay involved and stay engaged."

Ms O’Brien and Mr Donovan will hold their roles for a year and are passionate about representing the diversity

Ireland is among the more than 30 UN member states to have youth delegates at UNGA this year.
