A US tourist captured the moment a large section of one of the most recognisable landmarks at the Cliffs of Moher in Co Clare dramatically fell into the sea.

The portion of the 67-metre sea stack, An Branán Mór, collapsed into the Atlantic last Thursday.

Melissa Blackman, who is visiting Ireland from Texas, was on the coastal path when it happened.

Ms Blackman can be heard exclaiming "wow" as she filmed it on her camera.

Shortly afterwards, the Doolin Ferry sailed past and captured its own footage showing the newly eroded section of the sea stack.

In a post on Instagram, the company said it had never seen such a collapse over the past 20 years.

"The event is a dramatic reminder that the Cliffs of Moher are continually being shaped by the immense power of the Atlantic," the company said.
