Three arrests after pursuit of stolen car in Dublin
by Paul Reynolds, https://www.facebook.com/rtenews/ · RTE.ieThree people were arrested and two gardaí were taken to hospital after their car was damaged during the pursuit of a stolen car in south Dublin in the early hours of this morning.
Gardaí say that the car failed to stop for a garda patrol as part of "proactive anti-crime operations" on the Nangor Road in Dublin at around 1am.
A managed containment operation was put in place involving multiple garda units and the car was subsequently brought to a stop at the Cruagh Road in Rathfarnham.
Two teenagers and a man in his late teens - who was the driver of the car - were arrested.
The man is still being detained at a south Dublin garda station and can be questioned for up to 24 hours.
The two younger teenagers have been released without charge.
The car, which was recently reported stolen, is being forensically examined.
The gardaí - both men - have since been discharged from hospital.
The Garda Representative Association has said young men are "playing Russian roulette with reckless and deadly driving" and are a threat to society and to the public gardaí serve and are sworn to protect.
GRA president Niall Hodgins wished the two gardai injured in last night's incident "a fast and successful recovery from what was a traumatic event".
He also said that if were not for "the decision making, bravery and actions" of gardaí, such pursuits could result in far greater bloodshed and grief.
