Gardaí treating death of woman in balcony fall as assault

The woman who died in hospital on Wednesday following a fall from a balcony in north Dublin has been named as Kathleen Carey.

The incident, which gardaí are treating as a serious assault, took place near Main Street in Belmayne, Dublin 13 on Monday afternoon.

Ms Carey was brought to Beaumont Hospital for treatment and died from her injuries on Wednesday.

A post-mortem examination has been carried out, the results of which will determine the course of the investigation.

A man aged in his 20s was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the incident.

He was released without charge yesterday and a file has been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

An investigation is under way and an appeal for information has been issued by gardaí.

Anyone in the vicinity of Main Street, Belmayne between 3pm and 3.45pm on Monday, who may have video footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this footage available to them.
