Gardaí investigating a six-year campaign of harassment against a married couple in Co Galway are continuing to question a woman.

It is understood that the investigation centres on a campaign in which as many as 500 'poison pen' letters were sent to the couple who live in a rural village in Co Galway.

It is understood the regular hate mail included detailed descriptions of the couple’s movements, their locations, as well as images of their property, including cars.

It is believed gardaí have seized electronic devices, such as mobile phones, a laptop, and printer, as part of their investigation.

A garda spokesperson said its investigation into reports of ongoing harassment in Co Galway between January 2020 and October 2026 was active and ongoing.

As part of the investigation, gardaí in Galway arrested a woman yesterday for alleged offences contrary to Non-Fatal Offences Against The Person Act 1997.

The woman, aged in her 40s, is being detained at a garda station in the Garda Northwestern Region under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
