Dems’ ruthless purge of Haley Stevens and more: Letters to the Editor — Nov. 8, 2026

Dems’ ‘big tent’

What do Democrats mean when they brag about their “big tent” strategy (“DSA Takeover,” Ari Hoffman, PostOpinion, Nov. 3)?

It’s supposed to be a party with room for diverse viewpoints. Instead, the ruthless purge of Rep. Haley Stevens for following her conscience regarding the anti-Zionist rhetoric of Sen.-elect Abdul  El-Sayed’s campaign exposes that claim as a total sham.

It turns out Sen. Chuck Schumer and Reps. Hakeem Jeffries and Nancy Pelosi are merely guardians of the DSA. And could anyone stoop lower than the “Ragin’ Cajun” James Carville, who crudely compared Stevens to a used condom?

The Democrats’ “big tent” isn’t a broad coalition — it’s nothing more than a circus tent.

Rigged MTA stats

The Post’s anti-congestion-pricing efforts are well directed, but you’re letting the MTA play you when it comes to measuring success (“Record gain & pain for subways,” Nov. 4).

The MTA has gotten away with picking the metrics it measures success by. Don’t let it. The Post should keep pointing out that the region as a whole has been damaged —  traffic is as bad as ever outside of the lower half of Manhattan.

The one “metric” you’ll never hear from the MTA is how many commuters need their car to get to and from work and have had to absorb a $2,500-a-year hit.

Che’s cheap shot

Saturday Night Live’s Michael Che showed a lack of intelligence and class after repeating the lie that Israel is committing genocide during a bit about the Israeli elections (“Cross the punch line,” Nov. 3).

This is not only beneath him but should subject both him and SNL to a libel lawsuit. Che is neither funny nor entertaining — SNL used to be both.

Love can’t be split

West Hollywood’s new law to recognize various polyamorous relationships is another step in the wrong direction for society (“WeHo expands ‘we,’ ” Nov. 5).

Romantic love, by its nature, is the total gift of self to the spouse, and love means seeking the good of that spouse. You cannot give yourself totally and entirely to numerous people at once in a marital relationship, as this is a logical impossibility.

Keep talking, Jen

As a board-certified plastic surgeon, I agree with Kirsten Fleming and hope Jennifer Lawrence leaves her face alone for now (“The end is veneer for star quirks,” Nov. 2).

I also agree that women today are pushed into an unfair contest with models and movie stars who have an entire beauty arsenal at their disposal.

That being said, Lawrence is a powerful and accomplished voice for women of all ages. By speaking openly — rather than pretending her looks are effortless — she helps women see through the illusion of “natural” perfection.

Riders’ moral rot

The editorial on New York City buses is spot-on (“The ‘Free Bus’ Disaster,” Nov. 2).

But it should’ve put more emphasis on the lack of moral character of those who don’t pay. It’s very disheartening to watch people not even attempt to pay because they know that nobody will stop them.
