PISA ranking: Lebanese students' performance drops sharply, especially in reading
The tests assessed 7,382 15-year-old students enrolled in Lebanon in 2025.
by Anne-Marie El-HAGE · L'Orient TodayThe performance of Lebanese students dropped sharply between 2022 and 2025: -44 points in reading, -24 in science, and -22 in mathematics, according to the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) survey published in early September. The drop is especially significant in reading: Lebanon ranks 84th out of 89 countries, behind the occupied Palestinian territories and Egypt. The proportion of students who did not reach minimum competency levels is also high.
