After 70 years, 20 tons of asbestos leave Beddawi oil facilities to France
Additionally, 350 tons of “corrosive and flammable substances” stored in Tripoli are expected to soon be shipped to France and Hungary.

The hazardous material was first transported by CMA CGM to the Port of Beirut before being shipped onward to France, where it is expected to arrive within 35 days, according to the same source.Asbestos, a carcinogenic chemical used mainly in construction materials but also in oil processing, has been banned for decades in many countries around the world.In the aftermath of the deadly Beirut port explosion on Aug. 4, 2020, caused by a fire that ignited hundreds of tons of ammonium nitrate that had been stored for years without proper safety measures, authorities ordered checks to see if other dangerous substances were...
