A penthouse has always had an aura of luxury; an exclusive home that sits at the top of a building and is usually the crown of the building that outshines the dwellings below.

Of course, with that status comes a price tag that sees most home buyers out of the race, but for those with the budget a penthouse is always a tempting proposition.

The luxury, new build home is on the market for £1,250,00 - currently the most expensive flat for sale in Wales - and sits on the rooftop of the very attractive Grade II listed building that was once home to Midland Bank and then HSBC bank.

The history of the building links directly to the growing wealth and importance of Cardiff docks, built in 1874 for the influential coal owners and exporters, with updates to the building including the ground windows and doors on the ground floor by Midland Bank's architect T B Whinney.

Cadw awarded the building a Grade II listing in 1975 for being an "impressive example of High Victorian Commercial architecture on [a] prominent site". The building was connected to banking until its closure as HSBC bank in December 2014.

The estate agent selling the penthouse lists all of its luxury and carefully considered features; settle down in an armchair with a brew, because even this abridged list could take some time to read!

The list includes LED downlights throughout by Faro Barcelona, hardwood-engineered oak flooring from Broadleaf, recessed electric blind boxes pre-wired back to the Control 4 Smart Homes Automation system. The full height doors are finished with solid brass, in a bronzed finish, complemented by matching power sockets.
