There is a familiar list of ingredients used in skincare products that promise to help boost your complexion and more. Think hyaluronic acid, allantoin, retinol, vitamin E, glycolic acid, collagen and more. But there is one ingredient you may not have come across before that is packed with some key ingredients: snail mucin, or more simply, snail slime.

It is increasingly used in skincare products as it is seen to be packed with key ingredients. And one product that knows all about that is COSRX's Advanced Snail 92 All in One cream, which is available on Amazon discounted by 32% to £15. This daily repairing is infused with 92% of snail mucin (Snail Secretion Filtrate) which helps build up a moisture barrier for your skin to give you some plump and hydration, but which also soothes skin.

This product does not leave a sticky residue on skin, and due to the snail mucin, and other ingredients like hyaluronic acid (which boosts skin elasticity and more), and betaine which all strengthen the skin's barrier by replenishing moisture.

According to the brand, the snail mucin "instantly soothes damaged skin and delivers moisture deep into your skin". It lists the key components of the ingredient as including collagen, elastin, glycolic acid, and allantoin. Importantly, no snails are harmed in the making of this product as the snail mucin is obtained in a safe and environmentally friendly way, and then processed as a cosmetic material, the brand says.

But what do people who have actually used it say? Well, it has a 4.4 out of 5 star average on Amazon, from nearly 44,000 ratings. One five-star review said the cream was a "game changer" as they raved: "I honestly didn’t expect much when I bought this cream. I mean, "snail mucin"? It sounded weird, but my friend swore by it, so I decided to give it a go. And wow, I’m so glad I did! As a uni student, I don’t have the time or money to spend on complicated skincare, so I wanted something that would just work. This COSRX Snail Cream is a total game-changer!".

Someone else said they had been using it for a few weeks and added: "I’m blown away by the results! My skin feels incredibly hydrated and smooth, and it has helped improve the texture and tone of my skin". Another user called it a texture triumph, explaining: "From the first application, I could feel the magic happening. My skin texture improved dramatically, going from 'meh' to 'marvellous' in just a few days. It’s like my face got a VIP pass to the smooth skin club".

It was not a miracle cream for all though as one three-star reviewer noted that their skin "still felt a little tight and applying more didn't help much". While someone else noted that the product "doesn’t smell of anything. The lid inside is inconvenient". So if you are expecting some fragrance, that's worth taking into account.

There are other snail mucin products on the market if you wanted to give them a go. You can scope out iUNIK's Black Snail Restore Cream, available on Skinsider for £11.05. Or you can try out this Beauty of Joseon Revive Serum : Ginseng + Snail Mucin 30ml from Boots for £12.75. But if you wanted to opt for something more standard, there's also a moisturiser from The Ordinary, with 30ml costing £4.70.

Looking at the rave reviews for COSRX's Advanced Snail 92 All in One cream on Amazon though it seems like it is definitely one to try.
