ITV I'm A Celebrity sees tensions rise as Dean McCullough exposes undercover mission
by Peter Harris · Wales OnlineSeveral well-known faces in the I'm A Celebrity jungle have been found 'red-handed' as a dispute broke out in camp.
This follows the late arrivals to the series, Reverend Richard Coles and Love Island's Maura Higgins, settling into life away from the original campmates in the junkyard. However, they soon realised that life was more comfortable among the scrap, with a cosy bed and luxury bath revealed at the push of a button.
The duo had to fake that their living conditions were harsher than those of their fellow celebrities, even persuading them to give up a bed and some of their food. Radio 1 presenter Dean McCullough was also roped into the act, and if they maintained it, the entire camp would be rewarded with a junk food feast.
However, shortly after Dean moved into his new environment, doubts began to arise. Coleen Rooney was the first to express her suspicions, showing that her Wagatha Christie moment wasn't a one-off, reports OK!.
As the main camp learned that the whole group would be heading to the trial that day to face off with the junkyard residents, they were thrilled at the prospect of a potential showdown. GK Barry exclaimed: "I can't wait to see those lying little thieves!"
As the main camp journeyed to the trial clearing, journalist Jane Moore concocted a strategy to ensure the trio of Maura, Dean, and Richard were caught red-handed: "So what we should do is say nothing to them. Don't let them know that we know."
When probed about their Jungle Junkyard experiences, initially, they maintained the facade, with Maura claiming, "We're really hungry."
Richard spoke of his struggles while Dean lamented, "I slept on the floor last night, so my back is absolutely broke."
Alan quipped, "They're not getting a job in Corrie, I can tell you that! " Ant and Dec then coaxed Coleen to question them further, leading her to express scepticism: "I'm not convinced that you are actually in the junkyard."
Dean couldn't keep up the act and confessed, "Wagatha Christie strikes again!"
Richard then agreed, "Circumstances in the junkyard are not quite as tough as we'd led you to believe."
The truth began to unravel quickly after that. Dean and Maura disclosed their bubble bath luxury, and Melvin was stunned to learn that while he suffered during a recent challenge, Maura and Richard indulged in cheese sandwiches and tea.
An astonished Melvin confronted Maura, saying, "But I heard you crying! " Maura smirked, "I'm a good actress."
With the ruse exposed, it was part of a covert mission to win treats for the junk food feast. To clinch the remaining rewards, Richard and Maura had to brave the Terrifying Teddy Bear's Picnic, marking the season's inaugural eating trial.
A bewildered Maura implored Richard, "Father, can we say a prayer, please?"
Tensions were palpable in the main camp as all members reunited and faced a sleeping arrangement conundrum. A single bed and hammock added for new campmates led to McFly's Danny Jones opting for a change, leaving Jane to quip: "It's Lord of The Flies, if you're newcomers you get the worst beds."
Maura expressed concern for Richard's comfort due to his bad back, adding: "I just feel bad for him, he's not got a good back."
Alan chimed in with his opinion: "I don't think he should be in a hammock to be honest, I said before, he's 62 and he might want to but I don't think he should be in a hammock."
Despite the rules preventing the camp leader from relinquishing his bed, Oti told Jane she'd surrender her own for Richard, to which Jane gestured towards Dean, suggesting: "He should go in it."
I'm A Celebrity continues tomorrow at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
