ITV I'm A Celeb star sparks fan meltdown as he calls Coleen Rooney 'Wagatha Christie'
by Dan Laurie · Wales OnlineColeen Rooney was playfully dubbed "Wagatha Christie" by one of her fellow campmates on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Here!
In the 2024 series opener of the ITV survival show, which aired on Sunday (November 17), Radio 1's Dean McCullough couldn't resist bringing up her well-known moniker.
Fans of the show are aware that Wayne Rooney's spouse is affectionately called Wagatha Christie due to her sleuth-like investigation reminiscent of author Agatha Christie in a row with fellow WAG Rebekah Vardy.
Back in 2019, she orchestrated an elaborate sting operation to uncover the source leaking information from her personal Instagram account to the media.
Following an exhilarating skydive onto the show, Dean landed safely and faced a choice: to team up with either Coleen or his Radio 1 colleague Melvin Odoom, reports the Express.
After making his decision, Dean said apologetically to Odoom, "Melvin, I'm so so sorry! Wagatha Christie you're coming with me! ".
The moment saw Coleen laughingly dash off with Dean to the next challenge, hopping into a 4x4 for the race continuation.
Viewers were quickly sharing their thoughts on the "hilarious" episode online. A fan took to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, expressing: "Coleen is never living that down as long as she lives. Arguably more famous than Wayne at this point."
Another chimed in saying: "A Wagatha Christie reference this early in the show was not what I expected."
One viewer commented: "Dean labelling Coleen "Wagatha Christie" when picking her to pair up with him how awkward but iconic."
Another added: "No way Dean called Coleen "Wagatha Christie" to her face."
According to Betway, McFly singer Danny Jones is currently the favourite to win this year's series. Coronation Street's Alan Halsall and Saving Grace podcast host GK Barry are also among the top contenders.
Betway spokesperson Mike Reading said: "I'm A Celebrity is renowned for gathering a mix of reality stars, soap actors, athletes, and big personalities, and this year's line-up appears to follow suit."
"McFly seem to have the magic touch when it comes to reality TV, with bassist Dougie Poynter taking home the jungle crown in 2011, and drummer Harry Judd snagging the Strictly Come Dancing Glitterball Trophy the same year."
Although not officially confirmed, Love Island star Maura Higgins is also a potential contender for Queen of the Jungle, as rumours circulate that she and Reverend Richard Coles may be late arrivals.
Mike further added: "Both GK Barry and Maura Higgins are known for their humour and outspoken opinions, and with Maura dating Pete Wicks - could he be celebrating the win of someone else close to him, after best pal Sam Thompson was crowned King of the Jungle last year?".
I'm A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! airs at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX
