If you're an avid reader who's tired of lugging around heavy books, it's time to make the switch and start using an e-reader. Now it's more enticing than ever to make the switch, thanks to a massive Black Friday deal for Amazon's Kindle.

The All-New Kindle Paperwhite is currently reduced from £169.99 down to £134.99 - previously, the lowest price it's ever been was £159.99, so this is a huge opportunity to nab a top-quality tablet at a cut-price. This is for the 16GB model - if you wanted more storage, the 32GB version is also discounted right now, taking its price down from £189.99 down to £154.99. For both, if you have an existing Kindle you're looking to upgrade, you can trade in your old model for an extra 20% off.

The Kindle Paperwhite is different to the original model, because it has a larger screen and faster performance. This option bags you uninterrupted reading without ads, but it doesn't come with Kindle Unlimited - which you might want to think about getting if you speed through an awful lot of books.

Amazon promises that this model is the fastest Kindle ever, offering 25% faster page turns. It might be powerful, but it's still slim enough to take with you on the go, and a single charge lasts up to 12 weeks - giving you plenty of time to enjoy your favourite books or some new gripping reads. It's even waterproof, which is handy if you like to read in the bath or want to take it on your next summer holiday.

With a 4.3 star average rating from just over 100 reviews, customers seem thrilled with the new Kindle. "It's noticeably faster, making navigation and page turns incredibly smooth. The improved contrast enhances readability and dark mode, bringing a rich, comfortable reading experience even in low light," raved one shopper. "The build quality feels premium, with a sleek design that’s comfortable to hold for long periods, and the added rubber lip around the edge offers a secure grip. This model truly combines performance, display quality, and thoughtful design enhancements."

Another agreed: "The screen is bright, clear, and has excellent contrast. The page turns feel instant, and it's so light and comfortable to use." While a third said: "Love this Kindle. It looks fantastic. It's super quick. The battery lasts ages, I've had it for a month and used it every day and it still has 59% battery left."

However, some shoppers shared a few gripes. "My main problem with the recent Kindles is the fact you have to pay extra to get rid of ads…I don’t want to have ads so I paid, but there shouldn’t be ads on a Kindle period," noted one. Another said: "I’m not very good setting things up and I could not understand what I was meant to do."

For a slightly differently shaped e-reader, you could look to the Kobo Sage eReader, which is currently £219 from Currys, down from £249. Or for a more premium experience with a few more bells and whistles, there's the Smartech BOOX Note Air4 C e-paper tablet, which is £649.99 from Selfridges.

But to grab a Kindle Paperwhite at its lowest-ever price, be sure to jump on the Amazon deal before the deal runs out.
