OpenAI has introduced a new year-end feature called “Your Year with ChatGPT” to eligible users in supported regions. The tool provides a personalized review of how users interacted with ChatGPT throughout 2025.
Feature Access Linked to Settings and Usage
OpenAI confirmed that the feature is available in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Eligible users must have “Reference saved memories” and “Reference chat history” switched on to qualify. Users must also meet a minimum threshold of conversation activity during the year to generate the experience.
The feature is not available to those using Team, Enterprise, or Education plans. OpenAI clarified that it is only offered to Free, Plus, and Pro users with supported account types. Users who meet requirements will find an entry point on the home screen of ChatGPT’s iOS, Android, or web app.
OpenAI added that users can also activate the feature by typing “Your Year with ChatGPT” in the chat. The experience does not open automatically and remains optional. Each eligible user receives a personalized summary based on their interaction history.
Data Usage and Privacy Controls Explained
The company stated that the year-in-review tool uses chat history to identify high-level themes from past interactions. It does not include temporary chats and only uses conversations from accounts with chat history and memory enabled. Most of the content is generated when the user chooses to open the feature.
OpenAI confirmed that users can delete the summary if they no longer want to keep it. Deleted data from the experience will be removed within 30 days. Users also have access to full chat controls, including the ability to review and manage what ChatGPT remembers.
According to the company, content from this feature may be used to improve models if “Improve the model for everyone” is turned on. Users can disable that option anytime in the Data Controls section. The experience is designed to be privacy-forward and customizable based on user preferences.
Limited-Time Rollout and Availability
The feature is available only for a limited time and will not persist indefinitely on the home screen. After a user opens the feature, the experience becomes viewable as part of their chat history. OpenAI said eligible users can return to the summary within the same conversation window.
Users in unsupported countries will not see the tool even if all other settings are enabled. The rollout continues gradually, and not all eligible users may see the feature immediately. OpenAI has not confirmed an exact end date for when the experience will no longer be accessible.
The company emphasized that not seeing the experience will not impact the ability to use ChatGPT normally. All standard features remain available regardless of participation. Your Year with ChatGPT is generated server-side, like other ChatGPT conversations, and follows the same data retention policies.
