When it comes to skincare, we're all familiar with the usual suspects - hyaluronic acid, retinol, vitamin C, glycolic acid, collagen and more. But there's one ingredient that might not be on your radar yet: snail mucin, or as it's more commonly known, snail slime.
This unusual component is becoming a popular addition to beauty products due to its beneficial properties. One such product that utilises this unique ingredient is COSRX's Advanced Snail 92 All in One cream, currently available on Amazon with a 52% discount, priced at £10.49.
This daily repair cream is enriched with 92% snail mucin (Snail Secretion Filtrate), which helps to create a moisture barrier for your skin, providing hydration and soothing effects. Despite its slimy origins, the product doesn't leave a sticky residue on the skin.

Alongside snail mucin, it also contains hyaluronic acid (known for boosting skin elasticity) and betaine, both of which help to strengthen the skin's barrier by replenishing moisture. According to COSRX, the snail mucin "instantly soothes damaged skin and delivers moisture deep into your skin".
The key components of this ingredient include collagen, elastin, glycolic acid, and allantoin. And don't worry, no snails are harmed in the process - the snail mucin is obtained in a safe and environmentally friendly manner before being processed into a cosmetic material, assures the brand, reports Wales Online.
But what do the actual users say?
Well, the COSRX Advanced Snail 92 All in one Cream boasts a 4.4 out of 5 star average on Amazon, from nearly 44,000 ratings. One five-star review labelled the cream as a "game changer", they said: "I honestly didn't expect much when I bought this cream. I mean, "snail mucin"? It sounded weird, but my friend swore by it, so I decided to give it a go. And wow, I'm so glad I did!"
They continued: "As a Uni student, I don't have the time or money to spend on complicated skincare, so I wanted something that would just work. This COSRX Snail Cream is a total game-changer!"
Another user, after using it for a few weeks, exclaimed: "I'm blown away by the results! My skin feels incredibly hydrated and smooth, and it has helped improve the texture and tone of my skin".
A different user hailed it as a texture triumph, explaining: "From the first application, I could feel the magic happening. My skin texture improved dramatically, going from 'meh' to 'marvellous' in just a few days. It's like my face got a VIP pass to the smooth skin club".
However, it wasn't a miracle cream for everyone, as one three-star reviewer noted that their skin "still felt a little tight and applying more didn't help much". While another user pointed out that the product "doesn't smell of anything. The lid inside is inconvenient".
If you're keen to try other snail mucin products, there are plenty of options available. iUNIK's Black Snail Restore Cream is available on Skinsider for £11.05, or you could give the Beauty of Joseon Revive Serum: Ginseng + Snail Mucin 30ml a go from Boots for £12.75.
For those who prefer something more traditional, The Ordinary offers a moisturiser at £4.70 for 30ml. However, judging by the glowing reviews for COSRX's Advanced Snail 92 All in One cream on Amazon, it seems like it's definitely worth a shot.
