Merseyside walks near pubs and train station to blow away cobwebs

After a long walk, there's nothing better than stopping for a bit of pub grub and washing it down with a nice tipple. Fortunately, there are plenty of walks across the region that aren't far away from a pub.
Even better, a lot of these walks are also accessible by train. If you fancy travelling further afield and seeing what the region has to offer, take a look at the walks below and see if there is something that tickles your fancy.
The walks below are accessible via Merseyrail and are in close distance of a pub or bar. The list does not include every walk so feel free to share your suggestions in the comment section.
Ainsdale
From Ainsdale station, visitors can walk along the Sefton Coastal Footpath and follow the waymarked path into the reserve. This trail will take you through the woodland of the reserve and towards the beach. Visitors can find out more about Ainsdale's sand dunes by visiting the Discovery Centre. Please note that the Discovery Centre's opening hours may differ on Bank Holidays.
Ainsdale train station is approximately 30 minutes from Liverpool Central station. There are several pubs and bars a stone's throw away from the station including Pebbles Bar and Taverna, Dukes Wine Bar and Bistro, The Golden Monkey and The Tipsy Toucan.

Birkdale station is located in the heart of Birkdale village, which is filled with shops, bars and cafes. Visitors can take a casual walk through the village or access the Ainsdale and Birkdale Sandhills Nature Reserve via linked footpaths from the area. To head towards the nature reserve, walk along Weld Road near the station and turn left onto Coastal Drive.
Birkdale station is next to bars and restaurants in the village including The Park pub, The Little Bear, Coast Birkdale and more. The train journey is around 38 minutes from Liverpool Central station.

Take a walk through Chester's historic city centre, which is a short distance from the station. Chester's main shopping area includes Eastgate Street, Bridge Street, Northgate Street, and Watergate Street.
There are plenty of places to pop in for a pint or bite to eat along the way. The journey time from Liverpool Central is 45 minutes.

Freshfield station is a short walk away from Formby Beach Woods, which are well known for its red squirrel population. The site has plenty of pathways taking visitors along to its beachfront or through its woodlands. The woods are around a 15 minute walk away from the station.
The Freshfield pub is a seven minute walk from the station if you're looking to stop for a well-earned rest. The train from Liverpool Central to Freshfields takes around 32 minutes.

Hoylake
Hoylake station is around a 27 minute train journey from Liverpool Central. The seaside town has several pubs and bars within walking distance of its station including Green Lodge Hotel, 21st Amendment, The Hoylake Lights (Wetherspoon) and The Black Toad bar.
The station is approximately 15 minutes away from North Parade, which offers stunning views of Hoylake beach. The walk is circular if you head along Market Street, turn left at Hoyle Road, turn left again onto North Parade and then left again at The King's Gap.

Next door to Maghull station is The Mogul pub which offers pub grub and cold ales. The station is around 23 minutes from Liverpool Central.
From Maghull station, visitors can take a relaxing stroll along the Leeds Liverpool canal. Visitors should turn right when coming out of Maghull station, walk along Station Road until they reach Rutherford Road. Turn left onto Rutherford Road where there is a canal bridge which gains access to the canal.
6 of 7New Brighton
New Brighton station is just under a 20 minute train journey from Liverpool Central. New Brighton Promenade is the one of the UK's longest, stretching over three miles along the Wirral coast.
If visitors turn left from the station, they'll head towards the coast. Visitors will find The Derby Pool pub which offers spectacular views of the shoreline. Turning right, and then left onto Victoria Road will take visitors towards pubs and bars such as The James Atherton, The Bow-legged Beagle Micro-pub and more.
The Magazine Hotel is another great pub in the area which is on Magazines Promenade. Visitors should continue along Victoria Road until they reach the front and join the promenade. Turn right and head in the Seacombe direction. The Magazine Hotel, and neighbouring Pilot Boat are hidden up one of its pathways.
