Something to look forward to: Google is reportedly set to launch the Pixel 9a earlier than expected. While the company usually unveils its Pixel a-series devices at its I/O developer conference in May, this year's schedule might shift. According to reports, the 9a could be available for pre-order in mid-March, with in-store availability later that same month.

The new March launch window could become the permanent release schedule for the Pixel a-series, meaning the Pixel 10a might launch in March 2026. The report also seemingly confirms earlier rumors that the Pixel 9a will come in four colors: porcelain, obsidian, peony, and iris.

While Google has yet to confirm the rumored Pixel 9a launch date, leaks about the upcoming device have surfaced earlier than usual. Late last month, CAD renders of the Pixel 9a were leaked by prolific tipster OnLeaks, showing a redesigned camera bar on the back. Earlier this month, official wallpapers from the device also leaked, suggesting that Google is nearing the launch of its next-gen mid-range phone.

Google has historically launched its Pixel a-series at or around the Google I/O conference almost every year, with 2020 being the only recent exception. Last year, the Pixel 8a was announced just a few days before the event, leading most to expect a similar launch schedule this year. However, if the latest rumors hold true, we may see the Pixel 9a much earlier than anticipated.

An early launch of the Pixel 9a could indicate that Google is directly targeting the iPhone SE 4, which is rumored to debut next spring with a modern design and a powerful A18 processor. By launching the Pixel 9a two months ahead of schedule, Google could be looking to disrupt Apple's plans and offer a compelling alternative for mid-range smartphone buyers.

The Pixel 9a is expected to be slightly larger than the Pixel 8a, following current market trends. It is rumored to be powered by the Tensor G4 SoC and will likely run Android 15 out of the box. Other specs could mirror those of the Pixel 8a, meaning the base model might come with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Additionally, speculation suggests the Pixel 9a could feature a slightly larger battery than the 4,492mAh unit in the Pixel 8a.
