What just happened? LG has officially unveiled the 480Hz OLED monitor it teased back at CES. The $999 LG UltraGear GX7 model packs a QHD (2,560 x 1,440) WOLED display, DisplayPort 2.1 connectivity, and several other features that should please gamers who want the best of both worlds: the picture quality of OLED and the blistering speeds of a 480Hz refresh rate.
The 27-inch 27GX790A was one of several LG monitors on show at CES in January. LG has now made the official unveil, revealing more specs, the price, and a release window as the monitor goes up for pre-order.
LG says the 480Hz refresh rate makes this the fastest QHD OLED monitor available. We reviewed the 32-inch LG 32GS95UE in April, a 4K WOLED monitor with a 240Hz refresh rate and a 480Hz Mode, though the latter operates at 1080p.
Some of the 27GX790A's other specs include a 0.03ms GTG response time, 98.5% coverage of the DCI-P3 color gamut, a 1.5 million:1 contrast ratio, and both VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 certification and the highest VESA ClearMR tier. There's also support for Nvidia G-Sync and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro.
The monitor uses LG Display's META technology that the company says increases brightness and offers improved viewing angles while emitting the lowest level of blue light in the industry. Lower blue light reduces eye fatigue and eliminates flickers, enabling gamers to enjoy long, stress-free gaming sessions.
Connectivity-wise, there's the aforementioned DisplayPort 2.1 alongside HDMI 2.1, USB3.0 (1 up, 2 down), and a 4-pole headphone jack that supports DTS Headphone:X.

Another feature that LG seems proud of is the monitor's Anti-Glare & Low Reflection (AGLR) Coating, which the company claims provides a more comfortable gaming experience in brighter rooms, enabling gamers to see what's happening on screen without difficulty.
The 27GX790A's is now available to pre-order from LG's website. It's priced at $999 and is due to start shipping from December 30.
For comparison, the MSI MPG 271QRX, a 27-inch QD-OLED monitor with a 360Hz refresh rate and a 1440p display, has an MSRP of $800. The LG 32GS95UE, meanwhile, is around $1,099. If you want something even faster (and smaller), the 24-inch BenQ Zowie XL2586X, which can reach 540Hz on its 1080p TN LCD panel, is $1,000.
