Katie Maloney Teases New Show With Stassi Schroeder After Epic Falling Out
· The Fresno BeeKatie Maloney and Stassi Schroeder will be spilling all the tea in their new Hulu series.
"It's just kinda picking up where our lives are now and the people that are in them," Katie, 40, said on the Monday, May 4, episode of the "Humble Brag" podcast, explaining the premise of their upcoming show House of Stassi.
Katie noted that "a lot" of Stassi's story line is "family-oriented," meaning it will include her husband, Beau Clark, and their two children, Hartford, 5, and Messer, 2.
There's also "her best friends and then me," Katie said, adding that she and former Vanderpump Rules costar Stassi, 37, "had a bit of a falling out" that "no one knows" about.
"So this is really going to be documenting our road back to friendship in this phase of life, which is very different," Katie teased. "We're on very different life paths right now. She's married [with] two kids. I'm divorced and newly dating someone else."
Katie - who was married to VPR costar Tom Schwartz from 2019 to 2022 and together for more than a decade - called the show "really wonderful" because of how real it is.
"I think there's something really beautiful about friendships that span from your 20s, or early 20s into your 40s now," she said. "Where we're just different people but we can still have love and appreciation. It's just about us navigating that."
Katie explained that House of Stassi is really about documenting "what that journey looks like" between her and Stassi and the "naturally occurring conflict that happens" when friends grow individually and, sometimes, apart.
She joked that it's not like VPR, where sometimes the cast would want to "f*** s*** up" and create conflict.
This show's trajectory was more focused on both women really wanting to "speak your mind and put it out on the table" and then "hopefully have resolve at the end of the day."
As fans of VPR know, Katie and Stassi were close friends for years following the series' premiere in 2013. (The show experienced a revival in 2024, after a new cast was brought on following the infamous Scandoval controversy.)
Although the pair appeared to be friendly after Stassi was fired from the show in 2020, fans began to wonder if they were feuding as they were seen together less and less.
"I need to step in here," Stassi wrote in the comments section of a TikTok video in 2024, seemingly shutting down the rumors. "I'm not on Vanderpump Rules. I'm not on any team. That's not my life anymore. I have individual friendships with people. Friendships ebb & flow without it being nefarious."
Katie weighed in on the speculation surrounding her and Stassi's dynamic during an appearance on the "Off the Vine" podcast that same year.
"Yeah, I mean, Stassi, OK, she's got two kids now," Katie said when asked about the rumors. "While I wish we spent more time together - I think you're in a similar position where it's like, you're friends that have kids - so I think, you know, maybe once life balances out a little bit, we can spend some time together."
Stassi, however, confirmed their past rift last month while promoting House of Stassi.
"No one knows that we had a falling out for years," she told Marie Claire in an interview published on April 27. "Now we're rebuilding our friendship after growing in two completely different directions."
Katie, for her part, told podcast listeners on Monday that this reality show "feels like it has a different life to it," adding that she is excited for viewers to see her and Stassi's current relationship.
House of Stassi premieres on Hulu Wednesday, July 29.
