MyKLIA MTC, MyPutrajaya MTC monthly travel cards for airport staff, civil servants trialled for three months

Staff at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and civil servants in Putrajaya and Cyberjaya can now purchase the MyKLIA Monthly TravelCard (MTC) and MyPutrajaya MTC monthly travel passes by Express Rail Link (ERL) for more affordable commuting.

Exclusively targeted at Malaysians working at KLIA and civil servants who live in Putrajaya or Cyberjaya, the cheaper travel passes were introduced as part of the Malaysian government’s response to increased fuel prices, said transport minister Anthony Loke, reported The Star.

“We want to encourage public transport use, which indirectly reduces fuel usage. It also helps those working in said areas to reduce the use of motor vehicles and fuel as well,” Loke said. The government is not spending any money on the new passes, and the price difference is absorbed by the concessionaire, the transport minister added.

“As concessionaires, we encourage them to do their part to improve ridership, which is only hovering at about 60%,” Loke said. The monthly travel passes will be trialled for a duration of three months, from May 1 to July 31, and this may be extended if the travel passes are proven to be successful, according to the report.
