Porsche Taycan Turbo GT with Manthey Kit reclaims Nürburgring EV lap record from BYD – 6:55.533 mins

Porsche has reclaimed the EV production car lap record at the Nürburgring with a version of its Taycan Turbo GT that has both the Weissach Package as well as a newly developed Manthey Kit. The latter will be made available starting from June as a retrofit kit for customers who want the very best Taycan that the company offers.

With Porsche test driver Lars Kern behind the wheel, a Manthey-kitted Taycan Turbo GT managed to set a time of 6:55.533 minutes, which is a new record in the electric executive cars class at the 20.832-km circuit. Kern’s previous best time with a Taycan Turbo GT that equipped with the Weissach Package was 7:07.55 minutes,

The previous record holder is BYD’s Yangwang U9 Xtreme that set a time of 6:59.157 minutes back in August 2025. Before that, the title was held by the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra, which clocked 7:04.957 minutes in April the same year. It’s worth pointing out that Kern’s previous best time with a Taycan Turbo GT equipped with the Weissach Package was 7:07.550 minutes, so the Manthey Kit helped him improve by about 12 seconds.

Lap time talk behind us, let’s focus on the car. The Manthey Kit developed for the Taycan Turbo GT introduces extensive aerodynamic measures aimed at increasing downforce by more than three times compared to the standard model.

At 200 km/h, total downforce generated is up from 95 to 310 kg, while at the top speed, which is up from 305 to 310 km/h, you’re looking at 740 kg. Components that enable these improvements include a new rear wing with enlarged end plates, an optimised front diffuser, a rear diffuser with extended fins as well as enlarged air deflectors on the underbody.

Porsche also points out that the rear wing and front diffuser can be adjusted to match the circuit the car is being driven on. You’ll also notice the aero discs on the rear wheels that contribute to improving aerodynamic efficiency. Several add-on parts such as the upper- and lower-wheel arch vents, the front and rear wheel arch extensions, the widened side skirts and the rear wing are made of carbon-fibre to emphasise the car’s motorsport character as well.

On the chassis side of things, the Taycan Turbo GT’s suspension gets a specific setup for its Porsche Active Ride dampers, front- and rear-axle steering and all-wheel drive system. Those 21-inch forged aluminium wheels are also specific to the Manthey Kit and are lighter by three kg in total despite their larger dimensions compared to the standard units.

Paired with the lightweight wheels are Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS, although Porsche will also sell road-legal track alternatives as an option that are 40 mm wider at the front and 30 mm wider at the rear compared to a normal Taycan Turbo GT.

It isn’t just aero and stickier rubbers that make up the Manthey Kit, as the powertrain has also been improved with optimisations for the high-voltage battery, control unit and pulse inverters to increase the maximum discharge current while driving from 1,100 to 1,300 amps.

The result of this is a higher system output by 27 PS (27 hp or 20 kW) to 816 PS (805 hp or 600 kW). In Launch Control mode, power output is the same at 1,033 PS (1,019 hp or 760 kW) but peak torque is up by 30 Nm to 1,270 Nm.

If the driver engages Attack Mode, an additional power boost of up to 177 PS (174 hp or 130 kW) is available for up to ten seconds, therefore temporarily increasing output to 993 PS (979 hp or 730 kW) instead of 952 PS (939 hp or 700 kW). For increased stopping power, the braking system gets larger discs (440 mm at the front and 410 mm rear) and performance brake pads.

“With the new Manthey Kit, we are offering a unique upgrade for the Taycan Turbo GT. The small but impactful project team from Manthey and Porsche has succeeded in transferring the Manthey DNA into a kit for electric vehicles. This effort has culminated in an impressive new Nordschleife record,” said Kevin Giek, head of the Taycan model line.
