Dongfeng 008 in Beijing – 5 or 6 seats, 1,300 km CLTC REEV or 636 km CLTC EV, which will Malaysia get?

You already know that the Dongfeng MHero II, Voyah Dream and 008 are coming to Malaysia, and that they’ll be shown publicly in the country for the first time at the Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS) in June. Let’s now take a look at the 008 on the Auto China 2026 stand in Beijing.

Regardless of whether you want to call it an MPV or an SUV, the 008, like our 007 sedan, began life as an eπ (say ‘yipai’). It was born in 2024 and hasn’t been updated since, making it ancient where China is concerned. There are five- and six-seat versions as well as REEV and EV versions – all are 5,002 mm long, 1,972 mm wide and 1,732 mm tall, with a 3,025 mm wheelbase. It’s huge – about the size of an Audi Q7!

Tech-wise, there’s a 15.6-inch touch-screen, a 10.25-inch instrument panel (8.8-inch on the six-seater) and a 9.2-inch digital rear-view mirror. There’s also 64-colour ambient lighting, 50W wireless charging and 20 speakers (including headrest speakers, an amplifier and an outside speaker). Optional are a 15.6-inch rear entertainment screen and a fridge.

The 008 REEV’s 147 PS/210 Nm 1.5 litre turbo engine charges a 34.32 kWh LFP battery that feeds a 272 PS/340 Nm rear-mounted electric motor (powerful enough for MITI). It’s got a 210-km CLTC EV-only range, a 1,300-km combined range and a 26-minute 30-80% charging time. The 008 EV has the same electric motor but packs a bigger 82.28 kWh LFP battery (30-80% in 28 minutes) for a 636-km CLTC range. Which should Malaysia get? Considering all the new MITI regs on CBU EVs, perhaps the REEV would have it easier?
