GAC GS3 Emzoom updated in Malaysia – Premium R gets new grille, 2-tone colours; same price fr RM 117k
by Gerard Lye · Paul Tan's Automotive NewsWTC Automotif (WCTA), a Warisan TC Holdings subsidiary, has updated the GAC GS3 Emzoom in Malaysia, with the locally-assembled (CKD) B-segment SUV receiving a few styling updates to enhance its visual appeal.
At the front, the GS3 Emzoom receives a new ‘Flowing Diamond Star’ grille featuring black horizontal strips on its insert. The lower insert is also styled to match and this new look, which is specific to the Premium R variant, replaces the previous vertical slats found on the pre-update model. The latter, dubbed the ‘Mecha Wing’ face, is retained for the Exclusive variant.
The SUV also gets a revised colour palette, with Salt Lake Blue and Graphite Grey no longer offered to customers. Returning options include Asphalt Black, Super Star Silver and Frost White, all of which are available if you go for the Exclusive variant.
The range-topping Premium R can also be had in Asphalt Black in addition to three new two-tone schemes – Graphite Grey, Super Star Silver and Frost White – all with a black roof. We did not mention the Standard variant because it is noticeably absent in WCTA’s release.
Pricing remains unchanged despite the update, with the Exclusive going for RM116,800 on-the-road without insurance, while the Premium R is listed at RM126,800. For a limited time, customers can enjoy rebates of up to RM18,500, which brings the asking price down by quite a bit. A five-year, 150,000-km vehicle warranty, along with a seven-year, 180,000-km engine and transmission warranty accompany each purchase.
Beyond the visual changes, the rest of the GS3 Emzoom remains the same as before. Under the bonnet is 1.5 litre turbocharged inline-four petrol engine making 177 PS and 270 Nm of torque, with drive sent to the front wheels via a seven-speed wet dual-clutch transmission.
In addition to the new face, the Premium R continues to come with more features than the Exclusive, including an automatic function for its headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, heated side mirrors, a panoramic sunroof, a hands-free powered tailgate, a powered driver’s seat, ambient lighting, a rear centre armrest, a wireless charging pad, more speakers and airbags (six instead of four), front and rear parking sensors (rear only for Exclusive), a surround view monitor and hill descent control.
Both the Exclusive and Premium R continue to come with an ADAS suite, with standard features being adaptive cruise control, traffic jam assist, autonomous emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition and intelligent speed limit control. The Premium R exclusively gets high beam assist and park assist as extras.
