by Ben Hardwidge · PCGamesNIf you’ve been waiting for the right moment to buy a new gaming laptop, then you’ll want to take a look at this latest offer on the Alienware M16 R2. You can currently save $400 on the price of our favorite gaming laptop, which has an amazing spec, including an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070, a superb 240Hz screen, and 32GB of RAM. Thanks to this Best Buy gaming laptop deal, you can now pick up this machine for $1,699.99, rather than the usual $2,099.99 asking price.
You can read all about why we love this machine in our Alienware M16 R2 review, where we praised this laptop’s gaming performance, its great cooling system, and its crisp 240Hz screen. The $1,999 spec we reviewed has the same GPU and RAM as the version on offer, but a lesser CPU in the form of the Core Ultra 7 155H, but the Alienware machine on offer here has the faster, top-end Intel Core Ultra 9 185H in its innards, making it an even better buy for the money.
While the Alienware M16 R2 doesn’t have an OLED screen, we found its 16-inch 240Hz IPS display still impressed, with punchy colors and smooth action, thanks to its 240Hz refresh rate and lack of any visible ghosting. The screen also supports Nvidia G-Sync, so it can synchronize the refresh rate with the output from the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 laptop GPU, putting a stop to tearing and stuttering issues.
Meanwhile, that RTX 4070 GPU is seriously capable; we even had Cyberpunk 2077 running at an average of 102fps on this machine with the Ultra ray tracing preset enabled at 1080p, thanks to the GPU’s support for Nvidia DLSS 3 with frame generation, which can massively increase frame rates in games that support it.
We found the GPU struggled with some games at maximum settings at the screen’s native 2,560 x 1,600 screen, but it still averaged 56fps in Total War: Warhammer 3 at Ultra settings at this resolution, and you can always drop the settings to smooth out frame rates in other games.
One aspect that we really like about this laptop is its memory system, with 32GB of DDR5 RAM supplied on SODIMMs. Unlike some laptops, such as the Asus ROG Zephyrus G16, this means you can upgrade the memory at a later date, as it isn’t soldered to the motherboard. Not that you will likely need to with 32GB already installed. There’s also room to add another M.2 SSD in addition to the 1TB drive that’s already supplied as standard.
