How do you upgrade gear and weapons in Dragon Age The Veilguard? You can upgrade items for Rook and your companions at your base, but here are the things you’ll need to consider when upgrading and enchanting your gear.

Ahead of the Dragon Age The Veilguard release date, we’re taking a closer look at how item progression and upgrades work. You can equip up to nine items to your character, including three Dragon Age The Veilguard weapons and a helmet, armor, belt, amulet, and two rings. All this gear can be further upgraded at your base, here’s how.

Dragon Age The Veilguard item upgrades

You can upgrade and enchant your gear at the Caretaker’s Workshop, which can be found in your base, the Lighthouse. The upgrades on offer at first will be limited, but you can improve this by increasing the rank of the Caretaker’s Workshop. This can be accomplished by finding Caretaker Mementos, either from vendors or out in the world, with the ranks of the workshop ranging from zero to ten.

It’s vital that you upgrade the Caretaker’s Workshop as the higher the workshop rank, the higher the gear can be upgraded to, including gear scaling for items you find in the world and purchase from vendors. A higher ranking item also unlocks better enchantments, so you can further improve your weapon’s properties, such as applying effects to help in combat or increasing the damage of your weapons.

To upgrade items, you need to spend the required resources to gain additional stats. For example, upgrading a sword from +2 to +3 might require five Imperial Weaves and ten Pure Ore. In turn, this upgrade could increase the sword’s physical damage and stagger.

It’s also worth noting that buying or finding a duplicate item bumps the stats and upgrades it to your current workshop rank, also empowering the item, so it takes on a new property and goes up a rarity tier. You can also upgrade the items for your Dragon Age The Veilguard companions at the Caretaker’s Workshop, too.
