Terraria crossplay is now "very close" as Re-Logic prepares final submissions
· PCGamesNIt's been a long time in the works, but Terraria crossplay now seems almost certain to arrive in its first form before the year is out. The end of another month means it's time for Re-Logic's regular check-in, and the Terraria State of the Game for October 2026 includes some very exciting news on the sandbox game's long-awaited crossplay update, along with an announcement for its newest team member.
Halloween is upon us; "One of our favorite times of the year," Head of Business Strategy Ted 'Loki' Murphy remarks. "The crossplay era of Terraria is drawing very close," he continues, explaining, "We put all of the finishing touches on crossplay phase one earlier this month and then dropped it into extensive testing. Given the scope of this update in regards to being a new feature that cuts across multiple platforms, we expect Terraria 1.4.6 will get tighter scrutiny during the submissions process."
Murphy says the team had initially hoped to have already submitted the update across PC, mobile, and console versions this week, "but our latest round of tests uncovered a few things that will need to be addressed before we can do so." The team doesn't expect this to take long, however. "Most likely, and if all goes well, we should be back on track by next week."
After that, it's simply a question of waiting for all of the first parties (such as console platform holders) to approve the update. As Murphy notes, this might take slightly longer than usual due to the planned implementation of crossplay, but he says that "Once we have full signoff, we will push the big launch button and Terraria 1.4.6 and crossplay phase one will be in your hands at last."
Looking beyond that, Re-Logic is "getting ready for the last few months of the year and setting plans in place for crossplay phase two as well as what is to come after that." Murphy writes that the monthly State of the Game updates will continue to be the place to go for the latest details on what those will entail.
Unfortunately, the team didn't have the opportunity to put together a seasonal Halloween Contest for this year, but Murphy teases that there are a few ideas "that might be coming your way soon, courtesy of our brand-new Community Manager." The hire in question is Kerri R, dubbed 'The Rat Queen,' and arrives from her previous post in the same role at Vampire Survivors developer Poncle.
Murphy says Re-Logic is "turning the keys to the community over into her very capable hands and cannot wait to see what fun new ideas she will have in store." Kerri explains that she'll be taking charge of most social media posts and replies, along with assisting on the Terraria Community Forums and official Discord. "I'm over the moon to have joined the team here and I look forward to interacting with as many of you as humanly (ratly?) possible." If you want to welcome her, there's a special introduction thread.
For a little background on Kerri's Terraria opinions, she reveals, "I'm a big fan of the Dryad, the Angler was not my friend until I handed in my 200th fishing quest (I'm still keeping an eye on him), and I think Terraria should have more rats." I'm in agreement there. She adds that her go-to class is mage. "Arc Surge is now one of my favorite weapons because it's truly very satisfying to use."
Good news all around then - and, all things being well, we could be playing cross-platform Terraria by the time the Christmas season rolls around. No, it hasn't started yet. Keep your eyes tuned to your Steam updates list in the weeks to come, however, because it sounds as though Re-Logic is prepared to punch that button as soon as it gets the all-clear.
