Leaked new AMD Radeon 9000 gaming GPU rumored for 2026, allegedly powers PS6

Leak hints that AMD's new UDNA graphics card range will release in 2026, with the architecture reportedly powering the Sony Playstation 6.

According to new rumors, the next-generation AMD Radeon GPU lineup, based on the UDNA architecture, will start production in Q2 2026, meaning that AMD’s forthcoming RDNA 4 GPUs may only get just over a year in the limelight. The new graphics card architecture will also allegedly power Sony’s PlayStation 6.

AMD has already announced plans to combine its two architectures, RDNA – found on its gaming graphics cards, and CDNA – used in data centers, under one roof, and it looks as though the first products are already on the horizon with these rumored UDNA GPUs. AMD’s RDNA architecture hasn’t blown the roof off in PC desktop gaming, but this GPU architecture is used in some of the best gaming handheld devices, including the Steam Deck.

This latest leak comes from a post on Chinese tech forum Chiphell, courtesy of known hardware leaker zhangzhonghao. Based on this information, it looks as though there’s going to be no RDNA 5, and instead UDNA graphics cards are now expected to enter mass production in Q2 2026 (around April).

According to the post, the new AMD Radeon RX 9000 series will use the same architecture as the MI400, which AMD announced earlier this year under that CDNA branding. It was set to be “CDNA Next”, but will now reportedly be swapped to the UDNA name.

According to the user, the PS6 CPU hasn’t been determined yet, but Zen 4 or Zen 5 may be on the cards. In September, Reuters reported that Intel and Broadcom had lost out to AMD to secure developing the PlayStation 6’s graphical architecture. AMD has provided Sony with its graphics power since the PS4. Meanwhile, the PS5 uses the RDNA 2 GPU architecture, with Sony saying the PS5 Pro GPU features some new AMD ray tracing tech that isn’t found in the AMD’s current GPUs.

Interestingly, the post also mentions that “Sony’s handheld hardware will also use AMD hardware.” This further bolsters rumors circulating since February 2024, stemming from a report from YouTuber Moore’s Law is Dead in the video below. Sony’s last handheld was a remote player, the PlayStation Portal, rather than a successor to the Vita.

The post also offers more information on Microsoft’s supposed Xbox handheld. Last week, Xbox chief Phil Spencer said the Xbox handheld is still years away, but information “from the supply chain” in this post implies that the handheld hardware will go between Qualcomm or AMD. However, the leaker isn’t entirely sure.

This is all, of course, rumor, but zhangzhonghao has a reputation for being accurate. AMD’s next-generation UDNA hardware could see AMD finally attempting to take down Nvidia from ruling the roost with the best graphics cards available, as the Radeon RX 7000 lineup RX 7000 series has failed to catch on as hoped.
