The AnOther Team’s Desert Island Beauty Products

by · AnOther

From face creams as costly as London rent to high-maintenance, multi-step hydration, here are the beauty must-haves that the AnOther Team would take to a desert island

Susannah Frankel, editor-in-chief

Sisley Black Rose Cream Mask. It’s always been my favourite moisturiser. I sleep with it on and it smells as soothing as it feels.

La Prairie. I’m insane when it comes to skincare and absolutely love the most expensive shit imaginable. I was once given La Prairie Platinum Rare Haute-Rejuvenation Cream, which cost more than my rent at the time, but leaves my skin feeling better than anything else ever. If money was no object, I’d be schlepping that to my own private island.

Precious Greham, fashion coordinator

I should say a good SPF, but it would have to be the Chanel Baume Essentiel glow stick. It has a subtle sheen and just makes you glow – exactly how you want to look on a desert island.

Alex Peters, Dazed Beauty, beauty director

After a brief, wild thought to bring an expensive red lipstick, I’ve chosen something (a little) more practical to take in my suitcase with me. Augustinus Bader’s The Cream is the ultimate skincare luxury. Built around the stem cell technology that Professor Bader developed over 30 years spent working with burns victims, the cream helps skin cells repair themselves. I have loved The Cream for many years thanks to how it makes my skin look and feel. Although the brand’s newest launch, the Overnight Restorative Cream, might be the better choice if you were on an actual desert island thanks to its barrier support.

I wouldn’t survive without all four of these. I used to work at a beauty agency but I’m too accustomed to this routine to ever be without any of them. There’s Skinceuticals Metacell Renewal B3 and Ultra Facial Defense SPF 50+, Augustinus Bader’s The Serum and the Cashmere Peel Milky Exfoliant Hydrating Essence from Eadem.

Sophie Bew, editor

There are a couple of new additions to my holiday beauty regime and they’re all for my hair. I’ve made room amid my minis for the cumbersome spray bottle detangler from Beyoncé’s sultrily scented Cécred range – to be spritzed on wet hair, either clean or after a swim for a light veil of silky hydration straight from the beach. After the pre-dinner shower, Sisley Rituel’s Precious Hair Care Oil locks that moisture in. The pièce de résistance is Mai Nami Hair Pudding (I was influenced by this beauty guide on our very own website), which has changed the way I feel about my air-dried hair entirely. A tiny amount makes glossy, piecey waves out of fuzzy dry hair (I’m told it comes into its own on a puffy fringe, too). It really is a game-changer.

Humeara Mohamed, beauty writer

I’m a crispy, dry-skinned gal, but also a very sweaty gal. So, alongside a pre-travel dose of underarm botox, I’d want my desert island beauty routine to drown my limbs in moisture without greasy, sticky residue. I must pack Ciroa Body Serum – it's lightweight, cooling, hydrating and absorbed in a flash. Then, Lumene Hydrating Gel Mask: the jelly sits on skin like a moisture-locking layer of cling film. I wear it overnight and wake up with a healthy sheen, and layer after Patchology's Mineral Micro Mist for an extra shot of moisture. If I cared about make-up on a desert island, I’d splash on Rhode’s new Highlighting Milk in Pearly Warm Bronze and call it a (gleaming, sun-kissed) day.

Crème de la Mer face cream. I can't say anything else.

Rose Dodd, editorial assistant

The Prada Touch Cream Blush in Dahlia to give the impression of a light sun-searing, which I’ve actually avoided with my Horace SPF50+ stick. In terms of keeping me hydrated, a little tub of FaceGym’s Active Collagen Wonder Moisturiser would do, well, wonders – I carry one with my everywhere. And to keep me occupied, a bottle of Kiko’s Smart Nail Lacquer in Pearly Light Blue, which is my signature nail colour in summer. I never pack light.

Hannah Lack, deputy and literary editor

PF Candle Co incense. The scents of these candles and room fragrances, poured in Los Angeles into apothecary-looking jars, take you straight to California: Golden Coast smells like salty sea air, sun-baked sage and eucalyptus, Ojai Lavender is all lavender farms, orange groves and red cedars. They’re vegan and cruelty free, use soy wax and phthalate-free fragrance oils, and the company supports good causes like Wildfire Relief in LA.

George Pistachio, digital features and content editor

I have slathered myself in more serums than I care to admit, most of them promising things that sound vaguely medical and leaving me looking damp. Sarah Chapman’s Platinum Stem Cell Elixir is the exception. I am obsessed with it. This elixir has the look and consistency of olive oil and contains a cocktail of peptides and botanical stem cells. A few drops – which always travel further than expected – and suddenly I look like I’ve had a good night’s sleep. It is expensive, but I have reached the unfortunate stage where I know what happens when I stop using it, and so I cannot stop using it.

Daisy Woodward, contributing editor

I recommend Aesop’s Purifying Facial Exfoliant Paste to anyone who will listen. It’s made with fine quartz, which sounds dangerous but in fact leaves my skin looking dangerously glowy. You need to apply a good sun cream afterwards, so I’d bring QMS’ Cellular Sun Shield Fluid SPF50+ – a new discovery that feels very luxurious and plumping.

Emily Dinsdale, contributing editor

I like using holidays as a chance to indulge in rituals I don’t always manage to make time for during my regular working week, so I’ll be taking the beauty tech I’ve wanted to incorporate into my routine more consistently, namely the NOOĀNCE Multi-function LED Mask. In my opinion, this is the best and most versatile device of its kind because I can use it comfortably all over my body (which often gets a lot less attention than the face). So I’ll be bathing in red and infrared light and ageing backwards from the comfort of my shady sun lounger. I’ll also be taking the FaceGym Pro to use daily, cranked up to the most powerful setting, and hopefully return looking like I’ve had a deep plane facelift.
