Free Christmas tree recycling in Kildare

The recycling service will be available in Newbridge from January 5 to January 19 2026

Lidl Ireland has announced that its Regional Distribution Centre (RDC) in Newbridge, Co Kildare will once again serve as a key drop-off point for real Christmas tree recycling, in partnership with Kildare County Council.

This free, convenient service helps local residents dispose of their trees sustainably, ensuring they are not sent to landfill but are instead transformed into valuable resources for the community.

The recycling service will be available to the public at the Lidl Newbridge RDC from Monday, January 5 to Monday January 19 2026.

Real Christmas trees dropped off at the RDC will be collected and shredded by Kildare County Council. The resulting mulch will be repurposed for local landscaping projects throughout the county, including Lidl Ireland’s sustainable initiatives such as planting schemes on the Lidl farm and being offered to Green Fund winners for their community projects. This then closes the loop on a festive tradition and provides a sustainable end-of-life solution for the trees.

Elaine O’Connor, Head of Sustainability at Lidl Ireland and Northern Ireland commented on the initiative: "This partnership embodies our commitment to sustainability and waste reduction at a local level. By making it easy for our customers and neighbours to recycle their trees, we are ensuring that a traditional seasonal item is given a second life as valuable mulch for community green spaces.

“It's a fantastic, tangible example of the circular economy in action, and we are proud to support Kildare County Council in this."

The recycling point at the Lidl Newbridge RDC is one of seven locations across the county offering this service. Lidl encourages all residents to take advantage of the scheme and start the new year on a green footing.
