Cars detected speeding following Punchestown Races in Kildare
Naas Roads Policing Unit carried out speed checks following public complaints
by Ken Phelan · Leinster LeaderWhen Punchestown in Co Kildare was done and dusted yesterday, some drivers clearly thought the race was still on.
Following public complaints over speeding, Naas Roads Policing Unit carried out a number of speed checks.
A number of motorists were detected travelling well over the 50 km/h and 60 km/h limits on the Kilcullen Road and at Mylerstown Cross.
A garda spokesperson said: “This 'photo finish' now comes with a €160 fine and three penalty points.
“Let’s keep the racing where it belongs, on the track and stick to the posted limits. The only thing worth chasing on the road is a bit of common sense.”

Kildare gardai detect vehicle illegally parked in disabled bay in Athy
Meanwhile, while out on patrol this week, Kildare gardai spotted a car illegally parked in a disabled bay on Emily Square, Athy.
One vehicle had a valid disabled permit, while the second vehicle clearly did not.
A garda spokesperson said of the offence: “These spaces are designed for one vehicle only, with extra room for access, mobility aids, and basic dignity. They are not a convenience spot for anyone feeling lucky.
“Taking up that space isn’t clever. It’s selfish. And it comes with a €150 Fixed Charge Penalty Notice for a reason. If you're not entitled to it, then don’t use it.”
