Work of Kildare animal foster carers highlighted
KWWSPCA Column
by Niamh O'Donoghue · Leinster LeaderAll you need is love”, The Beatles sang, and Jade Rickaby Cat Foster Co-Ordinator with the KWWSPCA is a great believer in this sentiment.
Jade, who volunteers with the organisation, lives in Naas with her husband and three children. “Time and love,” Jade believes are key qualities in fostering. The busy mam of three under the age of seven also believes if you are passionate about something, you will make the time for it.
She loves that her young children are growing up experiencing the values of compassion and love for animals that need our care. There are many reasons an animal may need to be fostered. It can range from a litter of kittens who need socialising, to a dog that is post operative and needs crate rest, to a bereavement where a beloved pet now needs an interim loving home to adjust to their new circumstances.
Foster carers receive constant support during their fostering journey, the KWWSPCA also covers any vet costs if necessary.
One of Jade’s roles is admin on the Cat Fosterers WhatsApp group, which provides advice and support for foster parents who may have any questions or concerns.
“You get to be part of a community,” Jade says, “Fostering gives people the opportunity to meet new people and make new friends.”
In a testimonial from one KWWSPCA fosterer, Noelle says, “In my opinion, fostering has been the most rewarding experience you could be a part of. It’s wonderful to be able to provide a safe and loving environment for these poor little critters and help to get them on their way to their new home.”
