Man loses leg, severely damages other leg after being pinned by 2 cars

WEST VALLEY CITY — A man lost one leg and severely damaged the other after being hit by a car in West Valley City on Thursday.

A 23-year-old man was experiencing an electrical issue with his car, so he pulled over near 1300 W. 3300 South about 10:20 p.m. The man was unable to turn on his hazard lights as the vehicle had lost power.

As he was attempting to fix the issue and standing at the back of the vehicle, he was hit by a car driven by an 80-year-old woman, pinning him in between his car and the other car, West Valley City police said.

Officers arrived on scene. The man had one leg amputated by the crash, and the other was severely damaged. He was transported to the hospital and is expected to survive but could potentially lose his other leg as well, Lt. Jason Vincent said.

Police believe low-light conditions and lack of emergency lights contributed to the crash.
