Have You Seen This? Baby eel brightens diver's day

by · KSL.com

THE DEEP BLUE SEA – While scuba diving in Honduras many years ago, I noticed a seahorse barely taller than my thumbnail. It was unbelievably delicate and beautiful. I watched for several minutes as the seahorse drifted in the current before giving it some peace and heading off to explore other parts of the reef.

I've seen much larger sea creatures over the years, including great white sharks, manta rays, whale sharks and fin whales, but the memory of that delicate seahorse has stuck with me. In fact, I'd say it's my favorite ocean encounter of all time.

So it's unsurprising that this video caught my eye. Check it out:

According to the video's caption, this baby eel lives near Mauritius. The diver who posted the clip says that they felt compelled to go say hello to the little moray, and the eel responded by trying to nibble on their finger.

Is it just me, or does this bug-eyed eel look like an aquatic version of Gumby? All I know is that it's giving my tiny seahorse a run for the title of "cutest sea creature ever seen."
