Strictly Come Dancing's Claudia Winkleman has shared her disappointment that she won't be permitted to wear her dream outfit on the BBC hit show.

Chatting with Vernon Kay, the Strictly co-host spoke of how she would love to dress as a 'mature French student'.

She said: "I wanted to look like a male mature French student. Let's call him Jean, he's in Lyon, he's on the way to a lecture, he's studying Physics, and, he's got a scarf on, he's got a skinny black pair of trousers, he might have a turtleneck."

She jokingly added: "On the way, he's walking - it's damp - it's November. Guess what he goes past? A small pirate fancy dress shop, he picks up something. That's my person."

But, she said that she can't sport her ideal look as often as she'd like, as BBC bosses have forbidden it. She quipped regarding their response: "You can't dress as Jean, you have to be somebody else."

And, Vernon joked that the Strictly co-host 'must love movie week' as it gives the performers and hosts more freedom to dress away from the show's usual styles.

She replied saying that the only way to move away from her usual Strictly wardrobe is to dress as somebody else: "The only way to get me out of my uniform, is to dress up as somebody. One year it was Anita Dobson, my most successful year, the next year it was Pat Butcher.

"It's not that you're dressing like them, because these are heroes, so you're not taking the mick, but what you're doing is (thinking) would they think this is alright? Would Anita Dobson say, 'tick'."

Claudia has been part of the presenting team on the much-loved BBC show since 2010, when she became a co-host alongside Tess Daly for the Sunday night results show. And, four years later, she joined the main show airing on Saturday nights after the late presenter Sir Bruce Forsyth decided to step down.
