Scott Mills has shared an update about Zoe Ball's future following her shock departure from the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show. The announcement was made that Zoe, aged 53, will be leaving her early-morning role with Scott, who is 51, taking over as host.

On her show, Zoe expressed to listeners: "After six years of fun times alongside you all on the breakfast show, I've decided it's time to step away from the early alarm call and start a new chapter."

Adding, "You know I think the world of you all, listeners, and it truly has been such a privilege to share the mornings with you, to go through life's little ups and downs, we got through the lockdown together, didn't we? " She continued, “We've shared a hell of a lot, the good times, the tough times, there's been a lot of laughter. And I am going to miss you cats.

"Later in the afternoon, Scott, currently hosting his own 2-4 p. m. slot, commented on her announcement during his programme: "Zoe isn't going completely, she is remaining with us and we will tell you more about that soon, but honestly, I can't wait to start with you every morning.", reports the Mirror.

Regarding her decision, he also noted: "If you missed Zoe this morning, she had some big news to share. Safe to say we're going to miss her MASSIVELY in a morning, but she 100% deserves a lie in and, as you'll have heard in the news, it's been announced that I am taking over the Breakfast Show."

"WHAT? ! This is a HUGE honour, to walk in the footsteps of Sir Terry, Chris Evans and Zoe. And when I started doing shows in my bedroom just for my mum when I was 8. Or joined hospital radio at 12. Or got my first proper radio show at the age of 16, you just never think that it would ever turn out like this."

"I'm thrilled. I'm overwhelmed by all the love. I still can't QUITE believe it. And I hope you know I've LOVED being with you in the afternoon, it's been 2 whole years! It's gone so fast! I can't thank you enough for how lovely you all were when I took over from Steve, and I know that you're going to extend that love to Trevor Nelson, who's going to be here with you 2-4pm every weekday from early next year."

Brumwish 2024 - buy a gift for a child in need

BrumWish 2024 is Birmingham Live's festive drive to get thousands of gifts to children and young people across our city - among them the homeless, the vulnerable, kids in care, kids who are poorly or struggling, and kids who have little.

There are THREE simple ways to help.

  1. Buy a new gift from the Brumwish 2024 Amazon giftlist. In just a click your donation will be whizzing its way to our volunteers at Edgbaston Stadium.
  2. Donate money to the appeal fund hosted by Thrive Together Birmingham - this will help pay for gifts for kids with specialist needs or specific wishes.
  3. Buy a gift and, even better, rope in friends, neighbours and workmates to do the same, then drop off your pressies at Edgbaston Stadium, Edgbaston Road, B5 7QU on Friday 6th December, 10am - 3pm; Saturday 7th December, 10am - 1pm; or Monday 9th December, 10am - 1pm. Volunteers will be there to help you. Please don't wrap your gifts. You can also drop off by arrangement until Monday 16th December - contact Louise on 07469 979286.

Thanks to our partnership with #Toys4Birmingham, every single gift will find a good home in the loving care of a child living in B&Bs or hotels, hostels or refuges, children receiving support from specialist organisations and charities, and families being supported by children's centres and charities around the city.

Making up the Brumwish and Toys4Birmingham gang are Thrive Together Birmingham, Birmingham Playcare Network, Warwickshire Cricket Foundation (the charitable arm of Warwickshire County Cricket Club), Birmingham Forward Steps and BirminghamLive/Birmingham Mail.

Thank you to Amazon UK and the amazing team at the Sutton Coldfield depot for their support.

"In fact, I'm going to give Trev a call in a minute. I want to congratulate him properly. And, of course, we need to ALSO say a huge congratulations to DJ Spoony who's going to be bringing the Good Groove to Monday to Thursday nights at 10. I know he's absolutely buzzing for this. Zoe's last show is on the 20th December, and then I'll be waking you up from January! ".

Zoe plans to leave next month and cites wanting to "focus on family" as her reason but also expresses she's "really chuffed" for Scott.

"She simply wants to live differently, which means having more of a family life," an insider told Mail Online after Zoe herself said that she has had enough of the 4am wake-up calls after six years on the show.
