Gogglebox fans stunned as Siddiqui family make rare mention of missing star

A rare mention of a missing star on the Channel 4 show

The Siddiqui family, stars of Gogglebox, made a rare reference to a family member who has never appeared on the show. The latest episode of the Channel 4 programme aired on Friday night (September 20), featuring the usual cast members sharing their thoughts on the week's top TV shows. However, it was an unusual moment from the Siddiquis that caught some viewers by surprise.

The family, which includes father Sid and his sons Raza, Umar and Baasit, have been part of the show for an impressive eleven years. Yet, the mother of the family has never been seen on the show and is seldom mentioned.

In the most recent episode, the sons discussed who they believe is the favourite child in their mother's eyes. During a conversation about how they present gifts to their mum, one of them revealed that she has a fondness for Tupperware.

This led to one of the sons confessing that they recently bought Tupperware for their mum, which delighted her. The laughter that followed this admission showed their close bond with their mother, reports the Mirror.

One viewer quickly noted: "That's the first time I've ever heard them mention their Mum."

The Siddiquis have been part of Gogglebox since its inception in 2013, making them the only cast members who have been on the show since the beginning.

In an interview with Radio Times last year, Sid, 78, admitted: "When it started, we didn't think it would last even a year. It's crept up on us as well."

The brothers have been on the show for a decade and still have to remind themselves of how unusual it is.

Youngest sibling Bassit got his family on the show after a friend working on the programme suggested them. He explained: "We did a bit of an audition, where people came round with a camera and some flash cards images of Boris Johnson, Simon Cowell... and they said, 'Right, just say the first thing that comes into your mind.'".

Their natural dynamic clearly impressed producers, as Bassit added: "Whatever dynamic we had seemed to suit the show, because they asked us if we wanted to be part of it. And they've kept on asking us. However it looks like mum, Nasreen, prefers to stay away from the spotlight."
