Strictly Come Dancing star casts doubt on show future amid 'very frustrating' rehearsals

by · Birmingham Live

Strictly Come Dancing hopeful Sam Quek has opened up about the frustrations she's been having in rehearsals, and why embracing an alter ego has helped her through the competition so far.

Last week, the hockey star was left disappointed and emotional after making a mistake in her Quickstep performance with dance parnter Nikita Kuzmin.

On the night, judge Anton Du Beke said the duo were “so close” but “wasn’t quite magnificent”, while Motsi Mabuse said it was “a little miss today".

Head judge Shirley Ballas tried to console the pair by assuring them that mistakes happen, even to “the best world champions”.

Following their critique, the judges scores totalled up to 26 points out of 40.

Ahead of performing a Jive as part of this week's Halloween special, Sam, 36, shared how she had been getting on in training.

"I have to be careful at times because I do get very frustrated if it’s not clicking as quick as it should," she shared.

"I just want to get it right, I want to learn and then I want to move on to the next thing.

"So I think it’s helpful, but it could also be a bit of a detriment, but that’s when Nikita comes in and tells me just to chill out."

Sam went on to say that in a bid to help her on the live shows, she turns into 'Samantha' instead of Sam "who’s a little bit more like, ‘ooh’."

Despite this, the hopeful made a not-so-confident admission about her show future, admitting she doesn't think she's got what it takes to lift the Glitterball trophy.

"We’ve always said it’s about the process. I don’t think I’m going to win but I have an expectation in myself to work hard and put myself out there and just see what happens," she added to The Mirror.

Tonight, Sam and Nikita take on a Jive to Time Warp from The Rocky Horror Picture Show and will sure be hoping for a better week.

JB Gill will also be hoping that he avoids the dance-off this weekend, after he had to fight for his place against Paul Merson last week.

Strictly Come Dancing airs tonight at 6.25pm on BBC One.
