Exact locations of new 'smart' AI speed cameras as hundreds caught

New 'smart' speed cameras equipped with the latest technology have caught out hundreds of drivers after being switched on this year. They have been placed in a number of locations in the Midlands as part of the latest effort to combat speeding on busy routes.

They are fitted with adavnced digital technology and use AI to try to catch dangerous drivers. They've already clocked over 1,700 motorists after being rolled out at the start of the year.

Cameras were placed on main routes in Staffordshire as part of a fresh crackdown. They are mainly focused around busy A roads in Stoke-on-Trent, while there are also cameras operating on the A449 in Stafford, north of Wolverhampton.

The highest number of offences have been recorded by cameras on the A34 Newcastle Road in Stoke - over 1,000 this year, Details of speeding offences were released by Staffordshire Police following a freedom of information request by BlackCountryLive.

Senior officers in the county have not ruled out expanding the rollout of the 'smart' cameras in future. The new cameras are visible at the side of the roads and have a smaller box coming off the main structure to measure vehicle speeds.

They use a radar device to accurately measure the speed of each vehicle that passes. High-quality images of any vehicles exceeding the speed limit are then automatically sent to the enforcement officers.

Serving a warning, Staffordshire police chiefs said their new weapons against reckless drivers would "make it easier to check speeds".
