Anyone having to commute into work early each morning knows how cold it can be first thing. But you don't want to feel swamped by a bulky coat when sat in the car or on the train or bus.

That's why shoppers are praising a Feather & Down Quilted Hooded Puffer Jacket from Marks & Spencer that's 'cosy' without being cumbersome. It costs £79 and is available in black and buff in sizes six to 24.

This Stormwear™ garment is made with an innovative water repellent finish to protect from light rain showers and is filled with 90% new duck down and 10% new duck feather. What's more, it's machine washable at 40°C delicate. A size 12 jacket is 72cm long from the neck to the hem.

The jacket gets an overall 4.6 star rating from more than 200 reviews. One said: "I bought this coat in black. It’s ideal for me when getting up early for work and sitting in the car. Not too heavy and doesn’t make me overheat. It’s warm and looks quite stylish."

Another agreed: "Lightweight yet very warm. Zip up pockets, great for traveling." A third added: "Perfect jacket for this time of year. Light and warm. Like that you can alter the fit at the waist as I sometimes feel swamped by padded coats."

And a fourth posted: "This jacket is wonderfully lightweight yet provides unmatched warmth, easily outshining my other jackets. It's exceptionally comfortable and doesn’t feel bulky at all, making it perfect for all-day wear. I was so pleased with its performance that I bought it in two different colours. The warmth and lightness make it ideal for colder days, and I’d highly recommend it to anyone seeking a comfortable, warm, and lightweight jacket. A truly worthwhile investment for staying cosy!"

Another said: "Superb quality. Survived heavy rain and 100kph winds in Patagonia, kept me cosy. Well designed in terms of hood, zips and pockets. Love that there is an alternative to black as well."

However, one was disappointed with the quality: "Nice looking jacket and I like the hood, but the toggles didn't stay put and therefore made the jacket too big. It also wasn’t actually that warm."

M&S describes the coat as follows: "Keep the cold weather at bay with this feather and down puffer jacket, featuring textured diamond quilting. This lightweight, regular fit design includes a snug funnel neck, an adjustable drawcord waist and cuffed sleeves. Stay dry in showers, thanks to water-repellent Stormwear™ technology and a removable hood. This piece is lined, with fleece in the pockets for extra warmth. It's finished with a zip fastening and high-shine, metallic trims for enhanced visibility."
