In summary:

  • Tech Advisor reports that Garmin’s screenless fitness tracker, the Cirqa, appears close to launch following new trademark filings in Canada and Europe.
  • The device is expected to focus on recovery and energy tracking, competing directly with Whoop Strap, Fitbit Air, and Luna Band in the growing screenless wearables market.
  • Pricing may be higher than Fitbit Air, positioning Cirqa as a premium option for users seeking detailed fitness insights without subscription fees.

The anticipation for Garmin’s much-rumoured screenless fitness tracker, known as the Garmin Cirqa, is heating up after two more trademark filings have been spotted. It means the Fitbit Air rival’s launch could be getting very close.

We now know that an official trademark was filed not just with the Canadian IPO (Intellectual Property Office) but also the EUIPO which, as you can probably guess, pertains to products released in Europe, via Gadgets & Wearables.

These trademark follow an earlier filing from back in April, submitted so that a yet-to-be-announced tracker from Garmin could be sold in the United States. Just so there’s no mistake that the CIPO and EUIPO listings might relate to a different product entirely, all of these filings share the same description of features:

“Wearable devices and instruments to be placed on the human body, namely electronic sensors and monitors for measuring and analysing the body’s physical parameters and other physiological datam bio-signals, and bodily behaviour, and for measuring and analysing recovery from physical and emotional stress, human alertness level, and performance, all for non-medical and non-therapeutic purposes; electronic devices and instruments for storing, sending, transmitting, and receiving instructions and data relating to the foregoing; and parts of and fittings for all the aforesaid goods.”

What we know about the Cirqa

More so than any other Garmin device, it seems as though the Cirqa will place a great emphasis on rest and recovery, whilst also taking a record of your exertion to understand how much energy your body has left in the tank at any given time.

When it finally comes to market (which doesn’t seem to be far off now), the Garmin Cirqa will be riding high on a wave of popularity for screenless fitness trackers. Although the concept has been around for quite some time via the Whoop Strap, the brand has largely been uncontested for supremacy until this year, when the far more affordable Fitbit Air launched in May.

There’s also the upcoming Luna Band, which seeks to offer detailed and actionable advice based on your daily habits, all without any subscription fee in return.

Where Garmin will position the Cirqa on the current price scale remains to be seen, but if rumours are true, then it could end up costing a lot more than the Fitbit Air.
