Much to everyone’s surprise, the Oura Ring 5 is official as the firm’s new flagship smart ring. A recent rumour had it pegged for a late 2027 launch, but you can already pre-order it ahead of its release date in a week’s time.
The most well-known brand in the smart ring game, Oura says the new Ring 5 is the “world’s smallest smart ring”. The device also comes with upgrades including longer battery life and supposedly more accurate sensors, to name just two.
It gets a price rise to £399/$399/€429 for the cheapest model, but we’ll take you through everything you need to know about the Oura Ring 5 here.
We’ve been hands-on with the Oura Ring 5, which is a watershed moment for smart rings.
When is the Oura Ring 5 release date?
In summary
- Official now (not late 2027 as rumours suggested)
- Pre-orders live ahead of 4 June release date
Now we can tell you all the details, the Oura Ring 5 has a release date of 4 June.
You can pre-order it now from the official store.
How much does the Oura Ring 5 cost?
In summary
- Now from £399/$399
- Premium finishes cost an extra £100/$100
- Charging Case is an optional accessory at £99/$99
As mentioned above, the Oura Ring 5 starts at £399/$399/€429, but this is just if you’re happy with the Silver or Black finishes.
The price is £50/$50/€30 more than the Oura Ring 4.
If you want a premium colour – Gold, Stealth, Brushed Silver or the all-new Deep Rose – it will cost you £499/$499/€529.
Note that Oura recommends you get your finger sized correctly with the Ring 5 Sizing Kit due to the new design – even if you currently have an older generation of Oura Ring.
Like its predecessor, there’s also a Ring 5 Charging Case so you can top up the ring’s battery wherever you are. However, this is an optional extra at £99/$99/€109 and must match the size of your Oura Ring 5.
Also, remember that an Oura Membership is needed to get full use out of the smart ring. This costs £5.99/$5.99 per month or £69.99/$69.99 per year.
What are the Oura Ring 5 upgrades and new features?
A leak ahead of the Oura Ring 5 announcement suggested the device would only be an upgrade on the Ring 4 in terms of design, mainly that it’s thinner and lighter. However, Oura has also made some improvements and upgrades to the smart ring.
Let’s take a look at the key new features.
A sleeker design
If previous Oura rings have been too chunky for your taste, then the Ring 5 should solve that. Oura says it’s the world’s smallest smart ring at a whopping 40% smaller than the Ring 4.
It’s 6.09mm wide and 2.28mm thick, and it weighs from just 2g if you pick one of the smaller sizes. Even the largest Ring 5 only tips the scales at 2.69g.
This is made possible in part by new low-profile sensor domes and a brand-new battery design. It means the frame could be made smaller overall, and as a bonus, Oura says it’s more durable than its predecessor.
The Ring 5 has a non-allergenic titanium interior and exterior with a “new, extra-strong physical vapor deposition coating which enhances scratch resistance”. It’s also rated for 100m water resistance.
The Oura Ring 5 comes in US sizes 6-13 and five colours/finishes: Silver, Black, Gold, Stealth, Brushed Silver and Deep Rose.
There’s no mention of a Ceramic Edition like the Ring 4 yet, but this could come at a later date, once again.
More accurate sensors
This was expected to be the same as the Ring 4, but those new low-profile sensor domes contain more powerful LEDs and 12 stronger signal pathways, resulting in more accurate data from your finger.
Oura says it’s more accurate at recording things like your overnight heart rate, workout heart rate and overall signal quality.
Longer battery life
Considering the Oura Ring 5 is 40% smaller than the Ring, it would be impressive for the firm to keep the battery life the same, with a slight reduction to be expected.
However, the Ring 5 has longer battery life than its predecessor, rated at up to 6-9 days. How much time you actually get between charges depends on the size of the ring, as well as your usage, but those figures are a day longer than the Oura Ring 4 – despite the more svelte design.
As alluded to earlier, there’s also the optional Ring 5 Charging Case if you don’t want to just rely on the standard bundled dock.
For many, it will be worth the extra £99/$99 as it means you can recharge the Ring 5 up to five times, no matter where you are in the world, without a wall socket.
Live tracking and new health features
Hardware is one thing, but software is what makes a product successful. I’s especially critical when the smart ring doesn’t have a screen and you’re paying a subscription fee to use the service.
Oura has a selection of new features, though it appears that they will also largely be available to older generation rings, too.
First up is Live Activity Tracking, which does what you’d expect. You can start a workout and follow key metrics as you go via the app or lock screen widgets on your phone. This includes pace and distance for activities like running, cycling and strength training.
Health Radar builds on Symptom Radar, which was introduced in 2024. The new feature goes further than detecting when something felt off and continuously monitors key biometrics in the background to surface patterns you might need to pay attention to.
The idea being you can get ahead of something before it gets worse, avoiding things like exhaustion.
Blood Pressure Signals is also new and part of the Health Radar. It continuously detects shifts and patterns which may indicate cardiovascular strain, alerting members to signs of increased blood pressure.
It can also track this while you sleep, when Oura says the body’s ‘cardiovascular story’ is clearest to see. This is called, well, Nighttime Blood Pressure.
Also for sleep time is Nighttime Breathing, which does what you’d expect: monitoring breathing patterns while you slumber. You get a 30-day rolling view of sleep-related patterns and disturbances so you can potentially make changes to improve your sleep.
Furthermore, Oura Health Records allows members to connect eligible health care providers to import things like diagnosed conditions, medications, lab results and more.
However, this is only available in 43 states in the US. Additionally, Health Radar, including Blood Pressure Signals and Nighttime Blood Pressure, are only available in the US, India and United Arab Emirates starting June 2026.
