In summary:

  • Google’s Gemini for Home voice assistant is expanding to 16 new countries including the UK, Australia, and much of Europe, with support for seven additional languages like French, German, and Japanese.
  • Tech Advisor reports that users can access Gemini’s enhanced conversational abilities and object recognition through the Google Home app, while a new Public Preview feature helps migrate older Nest devices.
  • Despite previous spring 2026 estimates for Google’s new Home Speaker, no updated release information has been provided alongside these software improvements.

Google has announced that its Gemini for Home voice assistant is rolling out to way more regions, including the UK, Australia, and much of Europe.

Back in October, we brought you the news that Google’s Gemini AI assistant was making its way to the company’s Nest smart speakers and displays in early access as a free upgrade.

This promised to be a major upgrade, with improved conversational abilities and (in the case of the Nest Camera) object recognition, among other things.

It was a strictly limited rollout at the time, however, with availability restricted to the US, Canada, and Mexico. Now the company has announced a wider rollout of early access to seven new languages and 16 new countries.

Those countries include the UK (hurrah!), as well as Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland. Outside of Europe, Google is bringing these major speaker enhancements to Australia, Japan, and New Zealand.

New countries mean new languages, with Danish, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Norwegian, Spanish, and Swedish added to the roster.

This early access rollout has already begun, and should be spreading to all eligible users and devices over the next week or so. Find out how to get early access or keep an eye out for an invitation, at which point you can switch your home to Gemini for Home in the Google Home app.

Google Workspace support

Alongside this wider availability for its clever-pants voice assistant, Google has announced a fresh batch of updates to the Google Home App.

There’s expanded Google Workspace support, including the ability to invite members to your home even if they are on different domains, improved account migration, and the ability to set up Nest devices through your Workspace account.

Google has also supplied a “Public Preview” of a new feature that lets you transfer all your older Nest thermostats, cameras, locks, and smoke alarms to the Google Home app in one go.

There’s still no news on when the new Google Home Speaker might launch, however. The original estimate was “spring 2026”, which is now (just about) here.

Its arrival can’t be far away, but we’ve asked Google for an update.
