Galaxy S27 camera revamp might be for good reason
The upgrade we all wanted for the S26

In summary:
- Tech Advisor reports that Samsung’s Galaxy S27 series may feature a redesigned camera module to accommodate native Qi2 wireless charging support.
- The camera layout overhaul could address accessory compatibility issues while enabling hardware upgrades like a new 200Mp ISOCELL HP6 sensor for the Ultra model.
- This represents Samsung’s first major camera design change since 2020’s Galaxy S20, aimed at maintaining competitiveness against rivals like Xiaomi and Oppo.
The Samsung Galaxy S27 could be in line for a revamped camera module design, and the reason has us rather excited.
It’s fair to say that the recently launched Samsung Galaxy S26 didn’t exactly spark our collective imagination. Next year’s Samsung Galaxy S27, however, could have something new to offer.
According to one South Korean blog post, “There is a possibility that the rear camera design for the next Galaxy model will be changed” (via machine translation).
The blogger notes that it is seeking full verification for this suggestion from a second source, but it’s notable that the initial claim comes from a company that’s involved in Samsung’s supply chain.
It would be notable if true, as the Galaxy S camera has been present in its current location and basic orientation – a vertical stack in the top left corner of the phone – even since the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S20 (pictured below) in 2020.
It’s something Samsung says is a big part of its identity, but may have to give in to changing it due to many accessories for the S26 phones proving incompatible due to the cameras being simply in the way.
An attractive proposition
According to the same source, there’s a practical reason for this reconfiguration. Apparently, Samsung will finally do the decent thing with the Galaxy S27 series and implement native Qi2 wireless charging support.
It seems those circular internal magnets will need some of the space currently occupied by Samsung’s long camera configuration, necessitating a rejig.
Beyond such practical matters, Samsung will apparently use this reconfiguration process to upgrade its camera hardware – something that’s arguably even more overdue.
A note of caution is added, in that rising component costs could put an end to Samsung’s grander ambitions. We all remember those Galaxy S26 Pro rumours…
With separate reports claiming that the Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra could switch to a new, larger and more advanced 200Mp 1/1.12 ISOCELL HP6 LOFIC sensor, it seems 2027 could be the year that Samsung finally gives us something new on the photographic front.
With the Xiaomi 17 Ultra and the Oppo Find X9 Ultra making forward strides on camera quality, Samsung arguably needs to take action if it wants to stay competitive.
